Anybody got the Koni FSD/H&R cup kit?

Featured Replies

I'm deciding today whether to get the H&R comfort kit or the Koni FSD & Eibach setup on my vRS tfsi,

I've read all the reports about the FSD's and would probably go for those but I live in Ireland and would need to buy them in the Uk and get shipped here, I would then have to get them fitted etc which is more money again!!

I can alternatively get the H&R comfort kit locally and get it supplied and fitted for almost the same as it cost's just to buy the koni/eibach setup from Awesome with their July discount......

Sorry, this is a long drawn out story :D

Has anybody driven vRS with both these setups and can comment?

Basically I want the car to be lower with better handling but I don't want to make the car unbearable to drive as some of the roads over here are not very smooth and I also want to retain the car's comfort somewhat!!

Thanks in advance

I'd be very nervous about lowering my car any more that it is already for driving in Ireland. I was told the Octy II is 1" higher than the Octavia I, and there are a few local roads where the Octy I used to touch down every so often that the Octy II doesn't scrape anywhere, so that seems to hold true. Getting the car raised or something like in the C5 where you can raise and lower the suspension on demand would be fun though.

Best thing for comfort is to ditch the big alloys for 15" wheels. My car has 16's and it's way harsher than any I test drove with 15" wheels - with the 15's you see the bumps disappearing under the wheels, but you don't feel them at all. I have no idea how people can live with the 17" wheels on some Octys at all, though that's probably a lot to do with just how bad Irish back roads are - in other countries it's probably fine...

I know what your saying alright but I'll be getting one or the other, My car is a vRS and has factory 18'' wheels and I find the ride great tbh, I definitely won't be putting smaller wheels on it and I won't be raising the suspension!! lol I want to lower it to make it handle better etc...

I have had other cars with 18'' and 19'' wheels on lowered suspension on irish roads and never had any problems.

So anyone got any info on either of these lowering options please???

Hi, there is a company called Capital Break and Clutch in Clondalkin in Dublin and I have just found out that they are an agent for Koni, I am going to try and get a "trade" price for a set of FSD's tomorrow, I'll keep you posted. Eibachs should be fairly handy to get. You should be able to get a good independent garage to do a full shock/spring swap over for less than 200euros.

Sorry, used the wrong quote. At least I got the poster right!!

How much have you been quoted for the H&R kit ???

Been quoted €600 to buy the H&R kit in Ireland, then fitting on top of that but tbh I'd probably fit myself and get the alignment done after.

Alternatively, I can get eibach springs on there own for about €170 and then whatever the FSD's cost,

Let me know what the answer is from that company as I would be thinking of ordering from Awesome gti and their offer ends tomorrow so need to know asap!!

Thanks again

I'll try to get the price as early as possible tomorrow, but I'm at the mercy of my mate who is a mechanic and is doing me a turn. You might be as well to give them a ring yourself, I'd hate to be responsible for you missing the Awsome promotion.

I phoned this place earlier, they are only suppliers of koni truck and bus shocks, they told me they cant get FSD's etc!! Ah well, worth a try...

My mate got a price through his local motor factors for the FSD's.......................849euros retail with a bit of trade discount.......yet another example of rip-off Ireland. Its a disgrace that we can get them cheaper from the UK even with overseas shipping factored in. Sorry for only getting back to you now, I've only got in from work, anyway, best of luck with your suspension.

I've ordered a set of H&R cup kit suspension from alloywheels.ie which is costing a lot less than the FSD's from awesome so happy days!! lol

Getting fitted next saturday, can't wait

Mark - I'd be interested how the car feels once you've got the H&R kit on.

I've searched this forum for any other posts on the H&R cup kit but nothing shows up..

I ordered the H&R cup kit through alloy-wheels.ie in Dublin, you can find them over on the vagdrivers.net forum,

I'm getting them fitted saturday so will give a report a few days after once they've had time to settle in,

How much does the H&R kit lower the Octavia over standard ??

I've been told by the supplier that it lowers the car (Octy vRS) by 35mm front and back, I'm not 100% on that though so will have a definite answer on saturday.

And that's quite a bit. Eibachs only lower by 20mm (plus the 15mm or so the vRS is alreay lower than other Octys). Should look sweet...

Mark, did you get the suspension done ? How is it ? Pics Pics Pics.

I was supposed to get it done last saturday but the parts never arrived on time, I'm booked in to get it done this saturday..... finger's crossed!!

How did the suspension job go..............did I see you in Dunshaughlin on Saturday with no alloys on your car ??

C'mon................whats it like ?? (pics). I'm thinking of getting this done at the same place, would you recommend them. I was also looking at Weitec kit for about €200 cheaper.

Just got the suspension done today, it has lowered the car but not by 35mm, although I've been told it will take a few weeks of driving for it to settle in!

The car definitely handles a lot better and is still very comfortable while being stiffer.

I need to get the ABS sensor replaced by the company who fitted the suspension as it got damaged during fitting. Will hopefully be replaced tomorrow.

It's all good, just need to get some 15mm spacers now to fill the arches!

That ABS cable got damaged on mine aswell a couple of months ago when I had some shocks replaced. When the car settles down.....post a few pics please. Does it feel much stiffer ?? I have Vrs shocks on my Elegance at the moment and its better damping I'm looking for not necessarely stiffer suspension.

Make sure you get some decent spacers - hubcentric and accurately machined. 15mm is rather a lot and will alter the handling a fair bit so give it some thought first as you may not like the results. Sure it will look cool but it may handle like a dog and I'm not confusing cornering speed with handling here. Wider track on a vehicle not setup for it can result in some weird steering geometry!

Had a fair few cars with Eibach, Koni's, H&R etc and never had any issues. Jamex springs however caused two blown shocks on the front due to incorrect spring rates so I'm always wary about fitting "lowering springs" without going the whole hog and doing shocks as well!

The really funny thing is insurance companies tend to get the right hump over suspension modes - much more so than anything else. That said I did fit a roll cage to a Cinquecento Sporting once to stiffen up the chassis and my insurance co completely wigged out and suggested I find aniother insurer! The funny thing was this was Performance Direct who apparently "specialised in modified vehicles"!!!!

Anyway, enjoy the ride and avoid the potholes!
