Another difficult question

Featured Replies

I say 'difficult' because I am new to this forum and my first question, which I thought would be straightforward, turned out not to be.

So how about this one...ALLOY WHEEL SILVER/GREY PAINT.

Is there a specific colour code for this so it can be properly matched.?

(For our other car (Audi) there IS a paint code for the wheel paint.)

Hi, I didn't think the Alloys on the Octavia or any Alloy wheels were painted as such but obviously I'm wrong.. I thought the finish on them was produced by the manufacturing process of the ' metal alloys' used in the wheel. I know you can have Alloy wheels 're-done' to remove tarnish/scuffs etc but didn't think any paint as such was used.. there are places to have your wheels re-furbed if you cannot find a paint colour match.

Cheers

Try googling "alloy wheel refurbishment" or if you want something more area specific try

Yell.com and use "alloy wheel refurbishment" sans quotes.

I think you will find that the wheels are sprayed metalic silver with a lacer on top.

No idea of the paint code though.......

Yes,paint plus lacquer.

It may well be there is no specific colour, manufacturers often seem to use different shades of silver grey for different batches of cars. The wheel refurb specialists have the skill (and the tints) to mix and achieve an acceptable colour match.I don't have this but have the equipment and paint spraying experience if I could get the correct colour paint.

I may have to ask Skoda themselves.

I think wheels are all pretty much of a muchness in terms of colour. For quick touch-up Humbrol enamel (I think number 11 or 15 from memory; it would be obvious if you compared them as the othe ris black I believe) works really well.

Believe me , they are NOT much the same, although one silver/grey may seem similar to another there are dozens of different shade possibilities. If you totally paint all the wheels at once it doesn't matter, but for touch ups the wrong shade (if you are particular) can stick out like a sore thumb.

However the colour you refer to may be an OK match,I'll have a look.

I kerbed an alloy a couple of weeks ago..tried a couple of things, and this was a PERFECT match..you can get the laquer from them too

Wurth German Alloy Silver Wheel Spray Paint on eBay (end time 15-Aug-09 19:17:47 BST)

Thanks,I'll give it a try.

It's good that it does say a 'textured' finish, which is sort of the finish on my 08 Vrs alloys...on the other hand my 05 TT wheels have a different 'flat' silver finish,so not all VAG wheels are the same!!!

We'll see...

As said there are many differing shades of silver

Plucking an example out of the air  "Hammerite Smooth Silver" is not the same as "Octavia Spider Silver"

It is however more than adequate for the inside of a badly pitted rim
