Coming back to the vRS Forums...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I I have not been on the site for a few years now, having traded my much missed Octavia vRS in a while ago, and having been through several cars since.

I'm really fancing coming back to a vRS, so a few questions. Firstly there is sure to be a lot of debat here Petrol or Diesel? My last one was the 1.8T petrol, but the diesel is looking favourable to me currently. Next DSG... Have the new models got the 'Flappy Paddles', are they any good, or is it best just sticking with manual.

Good to hear from you all again...

regards

Gary

I recently went from a 1.8T to a CR 170 Diesel:

I have had my CR TDI (09 LE) now since I joined the forum in mid June now it is at 2K on the clock, I went from a Petrol 1.8T 05 VRS to the 2.0L 170bhp CR unit. One reason I did so was the economy of the petrol unit TBH. I can easily say it has been a magical change in costs even after 6 weeks. Does not have the same pace off the mark as the 1.8T petrol, but more than makes up for that in 3rd and 4th gear, performance - this to me is a revelation. Another revelation is the Cruising on the motorway at 70-80mph in 6th gear the car goes on forever, wonderful MPG with response when you need it by dropping a gear.

Also worth noting that the insurance premium is much lower, a real surprise when I consider the performance of the car. My first diesel car and I am really chuffed with it, my second Skoda VRS and again no car in its class gets close for VFM when it comes to build, performance and the feeling you are driving a hidden gem no-one knows about.

Manual box for me but plenty of reading about the DSG - pros and cons.

How many miles do you do annually Gary?

Welcome back. Do a search mate - we've had petrol -v- diesel deabtes on here ad infinitum...

dont go diesel its the fuel of the devil:P

anyway petrol vRS are betterer and fasterer especially if they are blue

Hi, thanks for your comments guys. I do about 16k pe year. Has the DSG got the flappy paddles on the vrs as yet and any feedback?

I've had a fabia vrs,and an Octavia 130pd but now have a petrol mk2 Octavia vrs. I love the petrol engine

of the vrs but if i was doing your mileage and could save approx £1500 a year I'd definately go for the

diesel. 90% of the time you won't notice the difference in performance anyway. If you do get a re-map.

Just my opinion

My vRS has the DSG but no paddles. They might be available on the 09 model - as others have said, do a search. As for the petrol v diesel, it does depend on your mileage and as mine's a diesel, I'll agree with others who say the performance difference is negligible but the running costs are completely different !
