Scratching/Clicking from behind Glovebox

Featured Replies

As above, I have a strange scratch/click from behind the glovebox ONLY when the ignition is on. At forst, I thought I had a rodent in the car, but I realised it only makes this noise when the ignition is live and/or the engine is running. Any ideas?

Thanks, Dave.

Could be a noisy motor in the air conditioning unit.

Do a search in this forum for loads of posts about it.

Does the noise change when you press the "recirculate air" button?

I haven't, but it even does it when I have the Climatronic switched off..... :S

It's sounds exactly like the Air Flap Positioning Motor needs replacing. See my old thread here:

The good news is, it's harmless and won't damage anything.

The bad news is at the end of the thread and involves £££ :(

I was lucky though – had it done under warranty.

****. So it will cause my EML light to come on? God damnit! So I need an Air Flap Positioning Motor and a Temperature Motor? Just what I need at the minute!

Do a scan first. It does sound like those though – mouse in the glovebox and all that. But I was getting told that if you could put up with it, it's not a problem

Nope! It has nothing to do with the engine. It's just the fresh air flap for the climate control. All it's doing is spazzing about opening and closing randomly. It won't damage anything and is not a serious problem obviously.

I replaced mine myself, the new little motor costs about £70 from Skoda. I replaced mine because the noise drove me mad, and it caused my aircon to pulse when blowing strongly (due to the flap flapping!). It's not a big job, just fiddly and awkward.

Replace it if you can be bothered........

P.S. Sometimes pressing the recirc button a few times sorts it out for a few days.

My blowers have been pulsing actually, so its good to know its not dangerous. I have my mate in the trade trying to source me the part, and depending on price, I'll fit it. Cheers for the help everyone.

Mine brought the EML on, which is how I found out what it was? I can't remember the codes though, but the mouse was living in the glovebox for ages before the light came on. Maybe he couldn't see properly :D
