at the moment i have no interior lights when i open doors all have checked loom under seat but all seems dry but have not opened the wires up yet on the wing mirror underneath there is a strip of apros 6 yellow lights what should these do as can not seem to get them to do anything some one has said my light problem could be down to the wing mirrors what do i check for and how just before i look at the loom ta

Puddle lights, presumably? They may need to be activated using VAG-COM.

As for the lack of interior lights, I take it you've exercised the selector switch thoroughly to make sure it's not sticking just proud of a contact position?

VAG-COM is a diagnostic tool that can be used to alter settings on comfort / convenience features like puddle lights. The lights themselves are supposed to come on when you take the keys out of the ignition (as are the interior lights). If they don't come on when ANY of the doors are opened, that probably rules out a problem with one of the door switches. My next port of call would be the fuse chart in the manual, to check that a fuse hasn't gone...
