CV Gaiter Replacement.

Featured Replies

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ambiente TDi 140 hatch. 34K miles 55 plate.

Due second MOT soon and a quick look today revealed the N/S outer CV gaiter has split where it clamps to the drivshaft.

Not lasted long in my view, but needs replacement or no MOT.

So, can it be replaced, or is it a complete driveshaft job?

If it can, esay? Does the joint come off the shaft easily?

Does'nt look too bad presently. Not much grease spray, so hopefully the joint will have survived.

Any pointers or links to a "how to" appreciated.

As an aside roughly how much in a Skoda Franchise? Do I take it there, or buy a Haynes manual?

TIA

Andy

I don't know about replaceing it, but mine needed doing at a similar mileage. Was sorted with service by Lease Co., so I don't know the cost I'm afraid...

Thanks.

Another "common fault"?

Found this.

http://briskoda.net/technical-guides/superb-i-cv-joint-change/145369/

Don't know how similar, but a quick look underneath mine suggests it it would be very tight to swing the inner end of the drive shaft sufficient to clear obstructions.

Could well have to drop the lower arm and allow the bottom of the strut to be pulled away from the car to get the shaft out.

Rgds

That's a comprehensive step-by-step guide

Doing the job tomorrow.

Can someone please assist with torque, and tightning procedure for:-

The large 27mm hub bolt ( I have a new one to fit)?

The 8mm splined bolts on the inner end?

Thanks again.
