problem with dension HU and JBL amp

ok, i've finally taken the time and fitted a new denision HU (80gb) and a jbl GTO 4000 4 channel amp. I ran the live to the boot via the small hole behind the pollen filter, then down the passenger side of the car into the boot. The amp is earthed under the passenger side read light cluster (it looks like a good connection, metal to metal)??

Everything was great, pumping tunes, excellent sound... then i started the car, i get a weeeeeeeeeeee noise when i press the accelerator.... :rofl:

The sound gets worse the faster i go and its damned annoying!

i've rewired it twice to see if it makes a difference, (i.e. run the line out cables down the drivers side etc) but nothing has improved it.

Any ideas?........please!

i have the same problem with my JBL GTO 6000, you have 3 options

turn the gains down on the amp until the noise goes (thats what ive done for now)

go to your local helfrauds or ice shop and get a in line rca suppressor (Autoleads

i have a few tests to perform today which i'm hoping will isolate the problem, i'll report back.

nb. i've previously had other jbl kit and found it to be very reliable, i doubt it's the amp's fault.. at least i hope it isnt! :eek:

if you solve it let me know... ill try it with mine before buying any more suppressors

Had that on my diesel.

It's the earthing, that point ain't good enough sometimes.

What I did was to lift the boot carpet, get a dremmel and make a nice shiny bit of boot floor and then drilled a hole through the shiny bit of boot floor and earthed to that. No supressors needed, gain turn mine up as high as I like now :D

Def the earthing are you running the cables down the same side.

Best thing to do is run the live down the passenger side RCA down the middle and speakers down the right. I know the earthing point your on about and it was no good on mine either.

Try a different earth but also make sure that both ends of the earth are clean and connected tightly, another problem I had was the earth to the distribution block wasn't connected tightly enough and this caused interferance

i'll try earthing the amp directly to the battery first i think, if that solves the problem then i'll locate a more suitable earth...

when you say you "drilled a hole in the boot floor"... is that advisable? :eek:

Because I took the Skoda multiplay CD out I used one of the bolts that mounted it works a treat

Probably not totally adviseable, but I did it anyway :D Cured the buzz problem totally :D

Undo the seat belt thingy under the rear seats. Scrap away the paint and then bolt the seat belt thingy ontop of the earth. I find this to be very good.

in my first post i said i had tried other earth points under the seat belt being one of them..didnt solve the problem for me.. :(

ok... my fiddling is over.

just to recap...

the power cable goes from the battery, through the firewall (behind the pollen filter) then down the passenger side of the car into the boot. it's good quality, thick cable

the amp is mounted on the back of the rear seat. i've earthed it to the seatbelt bolt on the driver's side ( removed paint first). The cable is the same thickness as the power cable.

the front speaker wires run down the passenger side of the car, into 2 crossover units. the bass driver wire from the crossover goes to the connector block at the back of the head unit and then uses the car's default wiring to the doors. The tweeters in the doors are disconnected, and new tweeter cables run from the crossover units to the dash mounted component tweeters.

The audio cables (front/rear) are reasonable quality shielded cables, and they run down the drivers side, into the amp in the boot.

The rear speakers are powered directly from the amp.

finally, the remote cable runs down the passenger side of the car.

The amp gains for front and back are about half position.

Using this configuration, i get pretty loud whining and whirring through (mainly the front) speakers when the car is running. Turning the music up gets rid of the noise, but it's still there during the quieter moments of the tracks.

I tried a direct earth wire from the amp to the battery negative, which made no difference.

The front speakers make the noise when the stereo/amp is off, and the car is running??? (the amp light is off)

I've now moved the amp grounding wire to the seatbelt bolt, this made no difference.

i've disconnected the rca connectors, from the amp, and the sound still happens.

i re-routed the front speaker wires between the amp and the crossover units directly through the car using different wire, this made no difference.

So, for now... i've turned the amp gain down to get rid of the noise. This isn't actually too bad as i can still get fairly blasting sound by turning up the head unit to about 65...

so... no conclusions there:mad: , just a compromise. :thumbdwn: any more ideas.? i'm stumped now :confused:

it must be the GTO range.. funny how i have the same problem... but the in line RCA suppresor does work but is

Try changing the amp leads (rca) around on the back of the stereo it could be a duff set of leads or a bad output. I had to do this on mine and it reduced the noise but as soon as I swapped them back the noise was there. I also experimented with wiring different speakers off different amps (running two lanzar amps one 4 channel one two channel) and this had some effect. I also noticed that on my car the rear speakers seem to both fade with the right output - I've never figured this one out yet ?

PS All amps may be for sale if I can remove them before the weekend
