Swapping Fabia Headunit for Sony!??

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm going to swap the basic fabia tape head unit for a cheap sony cd headunit. I was wondering.......

Is it as easy as I think, no change of cables etc.

Or will I need an extra wiring loom to accomodate different plugs etc...

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Chris

It's advisable to get the wiring loom adapter - should be less than a tenner.

You'll also need a fascia adapter.

And if you want to listen to the radio, you'll need the amplified aeriel thingy, but you can get wiring looms with this integrated, which makes life easier.

It's pretty straightforward, and well worth it... :)

Hi,

Thanks for the response!! Can anyone point me in the direction where I can get these from!?

Cheers

Chris

Doesnt the wiring loom adapter just switch over the +12V switch and +12V perm - as with all grundig units? I may be wrong but something is lingering in my mind which says that :) (2 bullet connectors should do the trick.)

Yes, this is true - it also "removes" the diagnostic wire, as running diagnostic checks on aftermarket radios can cause the dealer's equipment to malfunction horrendously... :)

Generally it's less hassle to get the loom, IMHO!

Part number of the basic wiring loom is PC2-69-4, should be available from Halfords and the like, and it's VW/Audi too, if that helps you locate it.

One with the aerial adaptor included is available from http://www.bluespot.co.uk for

Most head units have bullet connectors on the +ive and Ign lines that can be swapped over anyway.. i have a wiring loom adaptor but didnt bother using it as its an ass to get it all to fit behind the dash.

youll also need a facia adaptor and a ariel booster.. both can be bought from your local halfrauds or caraudiodirect.co.uk :)
