Few VRS newbie questions

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, recently got myself a vrs which im veryy happy with. Basically a couple of questions

1: Thinking of getting a remap done by r-tech, is it advisable to get a set of silicone hoses before this to stop any bursting pipe problems?

2: After some aero wipers for it, on my golf you could buy the new arms and genuine vw aero blades which looked alot smarter than these retro fit blades off ebay. Can you do the same for the octavia? any parts numbers

Many thanks people.

1. What kind of boost will it be running? I wouldn't have thought uprated silicon hoses are necessary on just a generic remap, just check your existing hoses aren't deteriorating and all hose clips are tight

2. IIRC the aero wipers are the same on the Octy as the Golf and you can buy them off ebay.

oh ok, thanks. Are the wiper arms the same? i thourght they would have been slightly different due to the octavia windscreen being that bit bigger ( I think)

Also whats the best spec oil to use in the 1.8t lump?

Here's the part numbers for the proper (non-ebay) Golf blades:

Mk4 Golf Aero Wipers

1J2 955 426B Drivers side blade

1J2 955 425B Passenger blade

1J2 955409 D Drivers arm

1J2 955 410D Passenger arm

They're the same size for the Octy.

Oil depends on whether it's fixed or variable servicing, 10w40 is ok for fixed, 5w30 for variable, I've been putting 5w30 Castrol Edge in mine and changing it every half a year but if you can get hold of the 5w30 stuff the dealers use its cheaper and just as good.

IMO the silicone hose kit is a waste of money, the OEM hoses will be more ok with the boost the k03s could ever push out. You will need to check the rear hose from the turbo to pancake pipe, this is prone to becomming a weak seal and can bleed the boost off. It is worth doing thr Forge TIP as this alone can give a few bhp gain in the midrange spool up.

You cannot go wrong with R-Tech remaps, there customer service is the best around, the remaps seem to be getting the best results around on the Golf forums. Nick wont let a car go out which is not running 100%/

I would say this wouldnt I. I have worked for R-Tech for 3 years now..lol:thumbup:

what the forge tip mate? ive been told that a forge diverter valve is worth getting :S deos this give any hbp ? thanks

The TIP is the Turbo Inlet Pipe, its the pipe that goes into the turbo (inlet side), down the back of the engine

Awesome > Neuspeed Turbo Intake Pipe 1.8T

(Neuspeed one compared to the original one)

The DV won't give you any extra bhp but it makes a noise and is a bit harder wearing than the original plastic one.

HTH

what the forge tip mate?

A pain in the a$$ to fit with no real benefits. Been there and reverted to original. Westallc has fitted a silicon tip that is an excellant product and much better fitting than the forge but unless you want bling I wouldn't bother as the gains aren't there.

No bhp increase but a more reliable dv. After remapping some OEM dv's have been known to fail. A sensible upgrade but again no gains.

Spend on the suspension first would be my honest advice as a car that handles will overall be quicker than a mapped car that doesn't and will be much more fun to drive on twisty roads.

I'm not even sure I would remap a car again personally but I would improve the suspension and brakes every time.

i would agree mate but the octavia seems to handle very well standard, unlike the mk4 golf gti, handles like a sack of spuds. Also the vrs brakes are very good stock as theyve got the bigger brakes on again compared to the golf gti, mines running green stuff pads aswell, not sure views on these. Brakes seems very responsive though. :D
