Filter in screen wash filler neck?

Featured Replies

On my Toledo and the Wifes vRS there is a filter in the screen wash filler neck to stop crap going down when filling. There doesn't appear to be one in my 55 plate Octy.

Should there be one? If so what is the part number so I can order one :)

Thanks

My old 06 plate octy didn't have one, so I quieried it because my Mk1 octy and Wifes' Fabia had one. I was told the MkII octy did have the filter. The odd thing is my 08 plate octy does have the filter.

my 55 plate didnt have the filte and my 58 plate does so they must have added it at a later stage for some reason??

My 07 has one.

Don,t have one in my 06 MK2.

Why not just ring your local dealer and say "I would like a filter for the screen wash bottle neck"?

It's a standard item and costs, IIRC (as my 07 came without one, but my previous Fabia had one and my wife's '08 Roomster has one) less than £5. They'll probably have them in stock.

Thanks :rolleyes::rofl:

I'll give the dealer a ring and see if they can order it; thought it might be easier if I had the part number to give them, you know how these parts depts can be!

ETKA anyone?

I've got to ask - does it matter?

I'm trying hard to understand what "crap" would be going down into your washer bottle? As far as I know Halfords / VW garages etc don't sell screenwash containing "crap".....:D

Sorry not wishing to sound as if I'm taking the p**s but I'm struggling on this one!

Several times when I have been refilling in the past (under trees in particular) stuff (such as leaves) have fallen into the filler neck or from the jug that I am using. The filter stops it going further and clogging lines/pumps etc.

Doesn't happen often but for the cost of a couple of £s versus replacing the motor in the washer bottle I think it's worth it.

1C0955485 probably less than 2 quid.

Not everyone tops up with clean premix. In the bad old kerbside/no garage days, I put a splash of concentrate in then topped up using whatever container came to hand. Often a watering can/bucket.

So a grot filter can make sense.

My 07 has one.

My 07 doesn't

My 2001 B5.5 Passat had an apparently identical one.

My 1998 Passat has one and my wife's 2000 Polo has one too and they appear to be identical.

Strangely I've noticed on my wife's Polo the inside of the washer bottle is quite dirty whilst on my Passat it is still clean.

When the garage topped it up with screenwash at the service for the Passat they took the filter out first.

My 07 doesn't

My 07 is a MY08!!

Cheers

If you order one, can you make it two if it's only a couple of quid and I'll throw you the cash :)

Cool thanks mate.

How much was it in the end?

Also OT, but I'll hopefully have a laptop by the end of next week so will be able to hook your car up for you then too :)

The issue I've had has been when you use whatever is at handn that is big enough to take a good amount of water. In my case it was a kettle on an older car and I the filter caught the scale.

I do agree that if you take care it shouldn't be a problem, but for the sake of a couple of quid I'll have a piece of mind as a repair would no doubt cost a lot more.

Just over £2 I think; Liz will pick them up next week on her way back from work :)

Cheers mate; let me know when you are free!
