Octi 110tdi vs 130pd remap?

Featured Replies

I own an octavia 110tdi which i quuite liked for a car when i forst bought it although it could do with a bit more grunt!

Ive just recently bought exactly the same model of car even the same colour! but i 130 pd with a 6 speed box.

My question is although the 110 is a slower car and the 130 is a lot faster on the motorway the pd has nothing below 1900rpm unlike the tdi which drives more like a petrol

Is it worth me getting the pd re mappped and will it remove the flat spot below 2000 rpm?

I must hasten to add there is nothing wrong with he pd, it goes like stink but out of a junction it has nothing until your halfway across then all hell breaks loose and lots of wheel spin lol

I want to get them both done but im not really concerned about remapping the 130pd for more power just to give it more low down power!

For example,

If you drive the 110tdi at1100 rpm in 5th and put your foot down it goes, and it goes well like it was a petrol in 2nd!

But the pd wont go that well unitl it gets over 2000 rpm not matter what gear its in!

I know this is normal as ive driven a mates Audi with the same engine and thats how they are but what can i do about it?

And is it worth getting the tdi remapped?

Cheers

Dan

Are you sure your PD130 is right?

I went from a 110 A3 to a Fabia vRS, and while I think the 110 did pull a little better at very low revs (like from 1000), the 130 didn't feel like if had a flat spot by comparison.

Yeah its right, perhaps ive laid it on too thick lol but the 130 just does not pick up as well!

Just the initial 10 mtres out of junctions! its normal just wondered how you can get rounds it

IIRC the TDI110 actually remaps to a similar figure to the PD130.

I find the PD's a lot less willing at low revs than the old school IDI and DI dervs, but then they have more grunt in other places.

Don't think yours is running quite right. My PD130 kills my brother's 110 everywhere.

Half the fun I find is the weight over the front wheels and the massive low down torque - surprises a lot of 'fast' cars off the mark. And I came from a high BHP 4x4 car so I really do appreciate it isn't slow off the mark. Throttle pedal/traction control/turbo would all be things to check.

I'd be wondering about the MAF myself. Do you have access to VCDS?

A remap does nothing sub 1900rpm.

And if you're having problem with the sudden power delivery now the remap will give an even greater surge.

I've had 90,110,115,130 & 150hp 1.9 VAG TDI's and chipped the lot so know the difference before and after! (dunno if I'm lucky or poor from spending all that money on cars!!!)

The 110 is a cracking engine but does not compare to a 130.... a mapped 130 is my pick of the bunch, the only engine which comes close is the 160Hp unit in an Ibiza.

I have to agree with the OP a little, prior to my remap my pd130 was very gutless prior to the turbo starting to spin up, I got a generic remap and that made a massive difference (generic remap with panel filter is the blue line) After the full miltek and de-cat even more oooommmppphhh before 2,000rpm and I've since changed the N75 valve and that makes it feel even better sub 2,000rpm.

Even with the amount of low down grunt and the aggresive power delivery I still find I have loads of grip but it does feel like a rocket has been lit.

SWMBO's fabia vrs feels so different to my pd130, I guess its down to the type of turbo used, hers feels so much nippier than mine and much quicker off the line, mine does still feel like there is some lag or delay when setting off where the fabia just doesn't have that effect.

By the sounds of it your PD130 sounds quite normal and a remap would help with the pre 2,000rpm sluggishness or look at getting a panel filter and a decat as this has also shown to give an improvement on mine.

How far can you take the 130 PD?

And what are the costs involved?

I take it after the re map its front mount inter cooler larger turbo exhaust and a slightly wilder cam!!!!

Whats a good figure to get from a 130pd? 240? or more! less?

so far i've got 343ftlb of torque and 184bhp from a generic remap (£300 Jabbasport), Miltek turbo back exhaust with decat (£430 Awesome GTI Special Offer), PiperCross Panel Filter (£25 Awesome GTI) and a Sachs Organic Clutch (£700 JBS Autos) to handle the extra power as the OEM clutch started to slip within a week of the remap at 86,000 miles.

As you can see in the above RR graph, prior to getting the Miltek fitted my car ran a 172bhp (best) and made 319ftlb (blue line) if/when I get a custom re-map it will take the miltek into account and should smooth the dips out between 1,500rpm and 2,500rpm which are a little noticable on the road under load and I would hope to achieve over 190bhp and 360ftlb.

As far as I know (after speaking with Awesome GTI and having a test ride in Al's PD130 Bora) which the only difference to mine has a Front Mount and a I don't care custom remap he is running approx 196bhp and 366ftlb which is as far as you can take the PD130 turbo without getting it turned into a hybrid.

I had a modded mk vrs before this and this car gives such a big kick of torque it always puts a smile on my face and for all of the driving I do is no slower.
