ride height mk2 VRS vs mk1 elegance

Featured Replies

I'm considering upgrading my mark 1 diesel elegance estate for a tdi vrs estate.

My main concern is the ride height as my job requires quite a lot of farm tracks. My current car occasionally bottoms out (only at 2 of our 50-odd farms) but I'm concerned about increasing the strike rate with a vrs.

is there a significant difference? The height to the bottom of the plastic sump cover is 120mm on the mk1.

thanks for any help

andrew

Going from a Mark 1 1.6 petrol to a Mark 2 1.9 diesel there seems to be quite a lot more ground clearance on the Mark 2. There's one (so-called) road local to me that the old car would touch down on at least once or twice even being very careful but the new car doesn't touch at all on.

thanks psycholist.

Could someone with a TDi VRS let me know how much clearance there is?

If the facelift vRS is the same as the original mk2 then it will be 128mm

Fantastic - thanks a lot.

Strange that the VRs is no lower than the standard mk1

It'll be the pre-facelift that i'll be going for so that information's spot on

For comparison, Octy II Elegance estate = 140 mm, Octy II vRS estate (pre- and post-FL) = 128mm.

I guess that the manufacturers always try to keep a decent amount of ground clearance.

As the suspension is stiffened on the vRS, and the tyres are low profile, I would expect that it is the ride on 'unmade' roads that would be the biggest difference to your current car. This might feel quite harsh in comparison.
