Personal leasing....any experiences?

Featured Replies

This is something that is completely new to me, but Mr P was talking to someone at work who does this and is now interested in doing it himself. We've had a look on a few websites and the prices do vary a bit from one to the other, so I'm sure a good balance can be found.

Is there a general rule of what's offered if you take the maintainance option?

Is this option actually worth it, or has it caused problems at the dealers?

Does personal leasing increase your insurance premiums?

Who supplies the cars? As in, is it done through a dealer or soley with the leasing company?

Do you get a realistic offer of buying the car at the end of the lease period?

Any companies that have a good reputation for leasing?

As I say, it's all new to me. I think Mr P is just looking at all the options ready for when he has paid his bike off. The cars he's looking at are the Passat estate, A4 Avant, Octavia vrs estate and the Scout.

My mum's last <> cars have been PCP'd. As long as you agree a realistic annual mileage, then all you're really doing is getting your trade-in up-front. Insurance is no different to a car financed any other way AFAIK, however you will need to get fully-comp cover.

HTH :)

My current car is on a personal lease (or PCH, personal contract hire as they call it).

I haven't got maintenance included myself, so can't fully answer the question, but do weigh up the option of servicing it yourself (at the garage) vs the costs of the maintenance contract. We only use the car for around 6K miles per year, and with a car that requires only a service once ever 20K/2 years it means that we only need to pay for a service once during the contract.

No idea, but I don't see why it should cause a problem.

Doubt it, but as has been mentioned above, you do need to take comprehensive cover, no choice in that.

I got mine from the dealer I negotiated the PCH with. It was on a showroom car, so I got to see/feel/sniff the car out first. Most deals are done through a broker though, who will deliver the car to you or a local dealer.

PCH is not the same as PCP (personal contract purchase). Normally you don't have the option to buy the car at the end of the term. They might offer it to you, but I wouldn't count on it.

I got the cheapest prices off the internet (Car leasing - Contract hire and car leasing special offers) and then took these to my local dealers and see if they could match/better it. Beware of the 6+ deals though... they look cheaper on a monthly basis, but you pay more upfront...
