Hi all

Maybe you can help me, the alternator have some rust/brown dust around it and the belt is squeaking like a bitch, the noise goes after about 1700 revs but constant when stationary.

Whats wrong? and if i need a new alternator is it expensive to replace?

could just be the pulley on the alternator , it has a freewheel mechanism on it

or could be the alternator belt tensioner not holding full belt tension

Doubt its the alternator most probally the belt tensioner.

I've changed severalof the alternator pulleys.

You need a special tool with splines to lock the alternator rotor while you undo the pulley.

IF NOT DONE, IT WILL SNAP THE ALERNATOR ROTOR.

The pulleys are £32 and the tool is £15. It's a 2 minute job.
