Caliper dust seals

Featured Replies

Hi All

My rear left caliper on my Octavia VRS is not that happiest and having taken the car apart to fit new pads I found some extreme uneven wear. The caliper is so stiff and it can't be moved using circlips (even with the bleed valve open). Possible cause is the dust seal is split and it looks pretty dirty under the seal.

I was thinking of getting some new dust seals and guide pins and cleaning the calipers up or alternatively get a new rear caliper. Can anybody advise where I can get some new dust seals. I believe having read another post these guys do seals and calipers: Car Brakes | We stock, Discs, Shoes, Calipers & More! the following

Only problem is getting these quickly and wondered where else could supply me with seals and guide pins. GSF and ECP seem to be out. Partco has been mentioned as being able to get green rear calipers but not sure about the seals. Does Skoda stock the seals? I am in Southampton so I can get to Winchester and Southampton Skoda but having gone to Winchester Skoda before they seem to take quite a while to get bits in.

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The pistons on the rear calipers require turning at the same time as being pushed back in, have you tried using the proper tool for this? (they are only about £20 from Halfords etc)

The seal damage was probably caused by the 'mechanic' that changed the rear pads last time.

not yet tried the tool from halfords but I want to clean it up first and get the piston moving a bit more free. Aim is to get the seals and guides then I will go get the tool from halfords. Bleed Niple was a nightmare too the guy did it up far to tight.

Skoda don't do new pistons and seals, I tried that. They just buy in the complete calipers.

I did spot some refurb kits in Halfords actually, so maybe it's worth a look next tme your in.

As you probably read, I ended up getting a service exchange part from the link you posted above. They sell all the bits, and I'd recommend them to anyone. Not sure on delivery because I live near enough to them.

Tell me about the bleed nipples!! People get really carried away with them. Couldn't budge the one on the caliper I removed!
