Anti-Roll Bar Bushings - advice needed!

Featured Replies

Hi There,

Had the ARB bushings replaced about 2 weeks (800 miles) ago. This morning, the ride and handling was all over the place, just as it was before i had the work done. The squeaking, fortunately, did not make a return.

I'm not very technical; can they fail that quickly? by the way, roads are quite patchy and I have driven through some heaving flooding in the last few days. No potholes though.

Any thoughts?

People blame all manner of handing issues on the ARB bushes but, in fact, they have very little effect on straightline handing or ride. In most cases (like mine), they squeak a lot but have no effect on handling at all. I upgraded mine recently (to TT ones) and have noticed no difference in how the car feels at all (though I'm happy is is nice and quiet now).

In order for them to adversely affect handling (to the point where you were really aware of it) ARB bushes would need to have disinegrated entirely. Even then, you would only notice it when cornering very hard (when ARB is doing most work).

It seems much more likely that your issue relates to a worn ball joint or wishbone bushes (which directly affect steering and ride).

Cheers,

iep

My thoughts head more towards the droplink bushes than the ARB mounting/pivot bushes.
