New Octavia VRS owner

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been on this forum for a while now, originally after wanting an Octavia Vrs, then a Fabia Vrs... then came full circle and got myself an Octavia after all! :)

Unfortunately although i've had it for 2 weeks, i've never seen it! My dad picked it up for me and it's at his house at the moment, as i've just moved away. However i'll be picking it up in less than two weeks. Its pretty much standard bar a remap, taking it to 215bhp.

Anyhow, i might as well start hording bits for it now.

So, just for looks i'd like a front upper brace, i've seen some in green, are these powder coated by the owners or can you buy green ones?

Either way where is best to get braces from?

Secondly i would like to remove the Octavia and the Skoda badges from the boot, leaving the rectangular Vrs logo in place. The Octavia lettering seems fine to remove, but is there a recess or any holes lurking behind the Skoda round badge to contend with?

The Chrome will also be removed in favour of black on the grill surround.

I have a Cupra R splitter awaiting me at the local Seat dealers and after that, Coilovers and a change of wheels will follow; i quite like the Audi TT comps... A new panel filter will be put in place and i'll see how i feel with it then.

Hopefully i'll have some sweet pictures up when i get hold of it

hello mate

Q1 = they have been sprayed and the you can get the lower and upper brace from a audi s3 and dont cost to much. ( lower one really does help )

Q2 = the skoda badge has 2 holes behind it so would req some body work.. also like mine you can find that once taken the vrs badges off the paint work is damaged around the outside of the badge again req body work ( or stick new badge back on like me lol)

Q3 = yep great mod just spray the outer crome edge makes the car look so much better.

Q4 = if running a map might be worth finding out who its mapped by and doing a rr. as some mappers at the moment are pants and the maps wil only feck your car....get boost graph etc put on here and we will be able to say good or wtf lol also you say standard has it had the dumpvalve upgraded to cope with the extra boost ?? cupra splitter is a cool mod aswell but when the coilovers go on you will find speed bumps are a no no lol but we lke it low.

hope this helped all the best

Under the boot badge:

DSCN7011.jpg

Audi S3 upper and lower strut braces.

The lower brace just bolts in place - the holes are already there.

The upper brace requires drilling the strut tops.

Upper strut brace 8L9 805 629 A

Lower brace 8N0 199 403 B

Bolts for lower brace N 104 679 01 2x

Captive nuts N 909 147 01 2x

Nice car you've bought there. Has it been lowered too? It just seems to sit a bit nearer to the ground than mine.

Also, regarding the map, I'd agree with westallc on his suggestion - just to make sure all is well with boost/fuelling etc.

Enjoy the car, it really is a dark horse and a bit of a sleeper. I took the Octavia and vRS badges off the back, leaving the Skoda logo in place. This was so people were quite sure what had just gone round them.:D

nice to see you have picked the best colour for a vrs!

Cheers for the hints and part codes guys!

Really helpful. Shame about those holes, i don't really have time to sort it so i'll just remove the Octavia lettering. Much tidier.

I'll get on the phone to Audi tommorrow and get some bracing sorted. Can't wait to get it.

Right, the map was done by Eco Power Group Ltd. who i have to say I havn't heard of before. That doesn't mean its bad, just not a lot of info around...

Apparently, there is a very small hesistation at 3k revs. Very small. It's impossible to say for sure what it is without the car.

However, i'm ruling out a boost leak as apparently its like **** off a shovel after that ;)

SO, i've read through some issues threads on here and theres lists of things like N75, DV and such to think of.

Has anyone experienced such a fault with that symptom? As i've gone through those threads with no real definative answer to what fix is for what issue.

Cheers!

sounds like it could be a maf problem or a dirty throttle body. or it could be a map problem i can be lots of things but i would say its the maf first..

I'll try a touch of carb cleaner when i get hold of it and see how it goes.

Well i got home today to find the VRS sat waiting on the drive! I can't drive it until tommorrow though as my insurance doesn't start til then.

Anyway, i've whipped the Octavia lettering off the boot, looks smarter, and i had a look inside the throttle body. It's as clean as a bell. Coilpacks are all in their correct places, so I dunno. I'll fill it with proper petrol tommorrow and see what happens.

I have a question though. How would you describe the smell of the inside of a Vrs?!

Because mine stinks of what I can only describe as a coconutty-cigarettey smokey smell. I don't think it's been smoked in, all roof lining, ash trays etc look spotless... but I dunno.

Sam.

Did cleaning the throttle body work? I have the same car, colour, on a 55plate low millage, 2nd owner...

Have the same problem since I bought it I'm thinking its an N75 problem..

Nah i popped the hose off and everything was clean as a bell. TBH its not much of an issue so i'll worry about it later.

For now; enjoy :D

Ref the smell:-

1) Ever had a car with part-leather before? I find leather interiors smell different to cloth and plastic.

2) If it's from a dealer, maybe they've been squirting air freshener? If so, it should go away in a month or so.

Seriously got my eye on nitrous with this paycheque... ;)

Splitter should be on on Saturday :)

Nice moody shot at the filling station that is.

Didn't go for nitrous this month, went for Weitec Coilovers from DPM. I havn't had word of them being shipped yet, but hopefully they won't be too long.

At the moment:

Although this pic doesn't show it well, the splitter is SO worth the money. Finished off the front nicely.

Nice pics of the car, especially the one with the back drop of the sky, looks mean.

The hesitation is common on some VRS's and some owners have never found the problem or route cause. It appears to be inherent on this engine type.

Some owners have just fixed it with a TB clean or change of plugs/ coils/ N75/ Maf or remap or a combination of all these. Some folks live with it and get around it by adjusting driving styles. It depends on the severity of the hesitation.

The smell in your cabin may be the air con system having stale air or bacteria in it. Get a aircon cleaner from various car accessory shops, Cleaned up my smell.

Weitec GT's arrived today.

BIG thanks to Damian at DPM for the great deal and super quick delivery direct from Germany. Cheers!

The units look REALLY good quality, far beyond what I expected at the low price. Time will tell how they fair on the car, but for now i'm happy. Fitting will probably be next week now.

Oh and the ariel has been lopped down to something pretty much the same as an S2000 ariel but for nothing. Simply take some snips to the ariel where it changes diameter, then a tiny blob of black silicon over the top.

NO difference in reception and looks far better.

Nice Car... When will we see a pose like this!!! 115mph..

That is what I also did to my ariel, easy to do. I just dabbed a drop of black sealant over the exposed metal..

Weitec's will transform your car great kit.

Yep, easy and free :)

Is there a proper fitting guide/thread for the Weitecs on here anywhere? Just to scout it out beforehand?

Yep I did it, and there is a number of threads also by other folks who fitted theirs too. eg. Sweedish, Claytarget

I will try and find the link later..

Weitecs sorted at long last! Had a bit of a mare fitting them due to a rogue inner nut. Sorted now though.

Car looks fantastic and handles SO far above standard. Massively chuckable now and confidence inspiring. Grip is there for longer, no annoying washing out too early - roundabouts are fun again!

No pics of the car as it is as its getting dark far too early now. I'll get some at the weekend.

Cheers for the help from those that helped traced my fitment fault.
