Can someone tell me exactly when the cr engine was introduced as how would you tell the difference between a pd/cr engine visualy as i've seen one on trader that's advertised as a cr170 but it's on a 57 plate & thought the cr engine came out in 2008 ?

Would it state it was a cr170 on the v5 ?

I'd tend to agree with you - would be very surprised if they went back as far as a 57 plate.

My V5 doc says OCTAVIA VRS TDI CR AUTO

I have one of the last vRS pd tdi (reg june 08) 170 cr vRS was Introduced in july 08.
