Ask a silly question, get a silly answer

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have joined the Skoda community by way of buying my son a Felicia as his first car; one thing I noticed while reading the manuals is that ABS/EBD was an option; one that is not fitted to the car we bought.

Is it possible to retro-fit the ABS/EBD system or am I asking a REALLY silly question???

The car is a late 1998 registered 1.3 GLi Estate.

PS, If the previous owner of S181KRF is reading this, THANK YOU! It is a really sweet and obviously well loved car.

yes it's possible to retro-fit abs, but it would be prohibitive to be honest, the dashboard wiring loom would need to be changed for an abs one, then, the internal body loom. wheel hubs and sensors, wiring engine side, brake master cylinder and servo, rear axle.... need i go on??

personally i've never seen a felly with edl and i believe it was never fitted to uk spec cars

OK, thanks for that, I wondered if perhaps it was the same as different spec electronic kit, where they just miss out certain parts, but use the same wiring looms and circuit boards to maximise economy of scale.

The Haynes manuals are printed in the US, so perhaps this was only ever an option over there.
