Columbus / RNS 510 - H E L P

Featured Replies

I'm a new Skoda Superb owner - and it's fab ! (previous car was VW Passat 2005).

Just been looking at the threads and I need help. i'm not a techie by any form... and need easy explaining (!).... q's

1. How do I check the firmware level in my Superb ?

2. If it needs upgrading, where do I get the firmware from?

3. How do I install it ?

The things that are missing from my current system are:

1. Display "off" function

2. Reading of SD cards that are 8GB

all the other functions seem to be on my current system ie. climatic control

The official line, especially considering your unit was supplied with the car is to go and visit a dealer and get them to update the firmware.

Display off, and cards up to 32GB are features of the latest firmware, but I dont think its available for the units fitted to the superb (which are very different to those fitted to the octavia). If you attempt the update yourself, you risk turning the unit into a doorstop and invalidating your warranty.

thanks for the prompt response.

what i've noticed though is, the unit are exactly the same in the octavia ie. looks wise.

do u know how i can check the firmware level ?

You need VCDS to activate the menu that will allow you to see the FW revision level.

The new Firmware is for both Superb and Octavia units.

The only difference between a Superb unit and an Octavia unit (that im aware of) is that the Superb's unit had some functionality that the Octavia didnt due to firmware. I.e. stuff like Visual Fader, Volume bar at the Bottom etc.

This has now been addressed by Skoda by the release of this firmware which updates all RNS-510 whether fitted to Superb,Octavia,Golf or Leon.

All the firmwares are on the one disc. If the firmware wont work on your model it will tell you straight away. Plus if you look in the latest firmware thread you will see a picture of my unit (which was reflashed with the old 0904 superb software) which reads as a 3T0 unit.

Maybe not - I could access the hidden setup menu on my factory fitted unit without anything being enabled with VCDS

Depends on what version of the Firmware you are running.

The newer firmwares generally require the Test Menu to be enabled with VCDS or a modified version of the Firmware
