Hi, I'm a new member looking for advice on the new 1.6 TDi Octavia. I have had 2 elegance estates with the 1.9 TDi engine and am thinking about trading in for the 1.6 estate. I see on paper the performance figures for the two are the same. However, can someone please tell me if there is a real difference. Much of my motoring is on single carriageway roads so I wouldn't want reduced performance e.g for overtaking.

Unlike the old 1.9 TDI (PD) this new CR engine is equipped with a DPF which needs periodic regeneration/cleaning by driving at a constant speed above 37 mph and according to Skoda may not suit certain driving styles i.e. "custimers who make frequent short journeys or stop/start driving or drive within innercity or urban areas").....just a thought.

Thanks for all the replies. Took a test drive today and bought it! It feels much smoother with no discernible (to me) dip in performance. In summary, the 1.9 feels agricultural in comparison and I'm looking forward to receiving our new elegance estate. Managed to convince the wife to change from our usual silver with the new car being aqua blue.
