Live wire in dashboard area when ignition is switched ON

Featured Replies

I need to find a live connection in the central dashboard area (prefered) when the ignition is switched on, are there any going to the radio, if so which colour.

Any help much appreciated.

DB.

Radio will be switched on/off via CANBUS signal I'd imagine so you'll struggle to find one. You'd be better running a single wire over to the fusebox, much safer IMO.

Thanks, Ok, but which connection in the fuse box.

DB.

Go to a car spares shop or somewhere like Maplins and get a 12v test lamp. Clip the crocodile clip to a good earth point and test the fuses through the litle slit on the top using the sharp pointy tip of the test lamp. This should reveal which are live and which are switched live via ignition. Hey presto! You should spot which is which without too much hassle. Thats how I'd do it anyway. HTH.

Beware just getting 12V when testing. Many circuits change voltage in use - eg the handbrake switch wiring - as they give feedback. I've not tried it, but perhaps the feed to the wipers (the self park is always live) might be feasible.
