Difference between VRS and Elegance shock absorbers

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of buying a set of VRS springs from a very helpful chap on here but I have a few questions regarding the shock absorbers.

My car is a 2.0 140BHP Elegance model. Is there a difference between the actual shock absorbers on the front and rear of my car and a diesel VRS?

Can I use my shock absorbers with the VRS springs?

Does anyone know the answer to the above?

If the VRS is a petrol one it's a sure no you can't use them as the weights of the the engines are different so the whole thing would be incorrectly sprung.

My car is a 2.0 TDI PD.... springs are from a diesel.

Still a No.

If you want it sportier, then get the sports shocks instead. 15mm lower than a stock VRS, 30mm lower than a standard Elegance.

There is a difference in that the vRS shocks are stiffer than your OE ones; other than that they are AFAIK physically the same, so interchangeable.

IMHO yes! After all what is the difference to you fitting a set of eibachs and retaining your OE shocks; there isn't one, other than the eibachs will lower your car by 30mm and be stiffer, than the vRS springs lowering by 10mm.

Overall your plan is IMHO quite sound to give you a mild sporting upgrade without huge expense. Good luck.

I have a 2.0tdi with the sport suspension/Pegasus option. My car has very high mileage and I recently got some well priced very low mileage Vrs shocks off this forum. I swapped the shocks over but left the original sport springs in. I may be mistaken, but the car doesn't look as low as it did before. My question................are the Vrs shocks the same dimensions as the sport option shocks ?????

Maybe your OE sport pack shocks had gone 'soft' with age/mileage (we all tend to do this, don't we? ) allowing the ride height to lower slightly; fitting the 'fresh' vRS shocks brought the ride height back to what it should be.

Surely if the vRS shocks were a different 'dimension' you wouldn't have been able to fit them in the first place.
