Newbie - Fabia vRS - a little advice please

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

just registered as this seems like the best place to discuss Skoda's and I've just bought a Fabia vRS (yesterday) - first regd 2007

I already love the car and after reading a few threads here am considering having it remapped.

Can anyone tell me if this can damage the car in any way, if they can recommend a remapping company and how far I should go (I don't want to jeopardise the car by pushing it too far but would love a little more performance)

I realise this is a big ask for my first post and I have probably broken endless board rules. If so please forgive my newbieness.

looking forward to many miles of driving my new little wonder

cheers

Hi and welcome!

There are quite a few posts on here detailing members experiences and pricing.

If you check the site sponsors there are a few company's who'd probably be recommended to you depending on your location.

To my mind, Jabbasport comes up as they always get top notch reviews. You are best starting with a stage 1 remap which would probs give you an increase of 30-40BHP and an increase in torque as well. If you check out the jabbasport website you can enter your car details and it'll give you an expected outcome.

I think the most thing to worry about is increased clutch wear. I've read that some members have had a stage 1 remap and are still on their OEM clutch 30-40K later yet others have been less lucky and have had to replace theirs much earlier.

Aside from that there is the issue of the turbo, I don't know a lot about how much extra strain is placed on the turbo after remap. I do know that from reading around it doesn't seem to affect the majority for a stage 1 remap, plus a turbo could easily go even before any car modifications.

The great thing is, you can balance power with MPG and typically see an increase in performance yet maintain or increase your MPG. It's very tempting if your car doesn't have high mileage. At 110K, I'd be worried to get mine done as the extra stress could ruin the turbo quickly. But if your not approaching 100K I wouldn't be too concerned. Have a chat with someone from Jabbasport or Rtech (they spring to mind) who'll be able to advise further! :D

have a look HERE for a bit more info on remaps

fantastic - thanks guys

my car has just passed 31k on the clock so I will consider the remap

(though to be honest its such a difference from my old Citroen Berlingo that I may just have fun for a while first)

where are you located just out of intrest and welcome

Remap on its own is excellent value for money, as long as you dont go trying to get too much power. 160-170bhp would be plenty imo remember there is extra strain on the boost pipes etc.

I live in South Wales in a village just north of Cardiff.

I average 4000 miles per month so I'm looking forward to many hours of driving. For some reason it seems more appealing all of a sudden.

thanks for the welcome - I hope to keep up with this forum as I think this little Fab may become a bit of an obsession.

welcome.

don't forget your mpg will slightly increase with a decent remap, very good if your driving that much.

Hello and welcome

If you always use the extra torque and power from a remap then you will increase the strain and wear on the clutch. this may mean changing it, this is also dependant on the supplier of the map. You will also increase you mpg. However if you drive it as it was as standard, you may find a improvement in fuel economy.

You must inform your insurance company about the improved performance and of course they will probably increase your premium.
