Cambelt+water pump+extras all done,

Featured Replies

Managed to change the cambelt+tensioner, auxiliary drive belt, waterpump+antifreeze, oil+fiter and air filter today on the 2.0TDI Octy. Parts total was £225 for everything, bought from several sources, Skoda, GSF etc.

Not the easiest job in the world, but not the hardest either. I just follwed the procedure in ELSA to the letter and it worked out good. I reckon I saved at least £3-400 in labour charges. I'm glad the belt wont need replacing for another 4 years though, I'm knackered from spanering all day:D

I'd give it three spanners out of five on the 'Haynes manual' difficulty scale, well within anyones reach if you have enough tools and patience!

Garbage. How can a dealer fit all that for £5? 4.5 litres of oil costs £40 for a start.

Which dealer fitted all that for £230 then? None of the 6 that I contacted gave a quote under £475.

Only jesting I did pay £230 for a belt and water-pump change but at a seat dealer, then I found out I could have had everything you had done for the same price from Millburn garage a good local indi and that included oil that he gets for £25 trade

Do any of your dealers look after taxis?? Chathams in Edinburgh are doing a taxi service for £100, you could borrow a taxi sign and get a discount
