Insurance, what to do, what to do??

Featured Replies

Insurance renewal is coming up end of September for my Vrs, I am currently with Aviva who have quoted £696 for renewal (29, 2years NCB). Upon phoning Chris Knott they have quoted £640.

In the next 6 months I am planning on going for a Re-map if I can convince the wife to let me (under the thumb), with this in mind I was all set to go with CK. Upon phoning Aviva to cancel my renewal they have altered their price to £660 and are throwing in £20 worth vouchers.

I mentioned the re-map to them and have been informed that they would insure me with a map but cannot give me a rough idea of how much.

My dilema is, do I go with Chris Knott or stick with Aviva?

I have had a recent accident involving a jockey wheel and must say that Aviva have been top notch with regards to the whole incident. I'm worried that if I go with CK I may not get the same treatment should an accident occur.

Opinions anyone?

What is CK's mapped price?

The % increase in power equals the % increase in premium.

So my premium will go up by approx 17% if the car is mapped to 210bhp

Have you tried Adrian Flux? I'm with them at £450ish, age 37, 5 years' NCB, remap +40 bhp, so about 30% increase (still only 190 bhp though :(), uprated brakes etc… etc… (see sig.)

They were the cheapest for me so worth giving them a ring

Or Hastings. Been with them for a few years now, beats the red telephone, the meerkats and that annoying millionaire on the shopping trolley.

I have tried Adrian Flux, they were cheaper by £30 but the excess was £350 compared to the £150 Chris Knott quoted.

I'd go with Chris Knott; certainly do not reward Aviva for quoting over the odds and then trying to price match when undercut.

Aviva can't tell you the increase? Cobblers.

I did think that, anyways, I've rung Aviva and given them the thumbs down this morning. I had a feeling that they would turn round in 6 months and put the premium up by £400 for having a re-map. At least I know what to expect as a price increase from Chris Knott.

Thanks all.

I have just renewed MK1 vrs Policy, was with Adrian Flux. Initially quotes were around £700.

Getting it remapped on the day it renews, and having tried adrian flux, chris knott and brentacre, and some others Brentacre came out the cheapest at just over £600 with remap and Forge DV. They said the remap can go upto 220 bhp. 27yrs 5yrs NCB.

Basically all three companies said heres a quote, come back if you get it cheaper and we will try and match. Thats what I did and brentacre gave the best price, and didnt have to be put on hold!

Ring all three and compare the prices.

Oh and also try A PLAN.

I'm with A-Plan (27, 3 years NCD) and they are brokers but they put me with the cheapest insurer they could find for me which was Equity Red Star and they don't cover mods full stop.

I was with Aviva up till July. Come renewal time, they wanted almost twice what I got quoted from Privilege (through the meerkats). Plus when I bought the vRS, Privilege only wanted £30 more than my old Mondy TDCi.

I'm 34, 7 years NCB, paying around £320 fully comp

I'm planning on doing a few suspension mods before the remap, bushes and RARB mainly, I'll ride the next year out with Knotts and see what happens come renewal.

After talking with the guy there I was quite reasured with regards to premium increases and mods.

I will try A-Plan and Brentacre as well before hand to get an idea of what they can offer.

Problem is that at the minute I am trying to forecast what the increases will be once I make the changes, it would be a tonne better if I already had them.

It is well worth trying my company as well, we can quote you on the standard car and we can also give you a good indication of how much extra it will be once the remap is done.

I'll PM you.

Kind regards
