Xenon unit- changing bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi i need to replace a sidelight bulb on my mk1 Octy vRS. The car has factory xenon units. I understand that a nasty shock could be had when working on these and also there seems to be no clip off covers as everything seems to be screwed together at the back.

Not much room to work either.

Any advice is gratefully appreciated.

Cheers Jim:thumbup:

Disconnect the battery negative first?

Although I thought the ballasts in Xenons were basically big capacitors so would hold a charge anyway even with the battery off

Disconnect battery. Wait 10min for safety precaution. Not reeeally needed but it's no harm to make sure...

1. Remove headlight from car

2. Take it apart and replace parts :D

It's pretty simple. Just cant do it while the unit is in the car. Unless you have very small hands

Heres a guide, Rob's Skoda vRS (He's a member on here). its not too bad of a job, some people moan, but it was no harder or longer than doing my mk2 mondeo (none xenon), mind you I remember moaning the first time I changed a bulb on that lol. I would expect as long as you havent had the lights turned on for a while then it 'should' be fine I didnt go sticking my fingers in bits to find out.

there was a thread on here recently complaining about getting one of the screws back in, but if you do this one (its the most hidden one) first I found its no problem.
