Musty, stale odour?

Featured Replies

Had my Octavia for just a couple of weeks but still getting a musty, stale odour . There is a cabin filter below the windscreen . Could that be a likely cause? Or I read that the aircon vaporiser gets a build up of bacteria which could cause an odour problem. Anyone had the same and managed to cure it ?

How is the plastic cover below the windscreen removed for access to change the cabin filter?

All suggestions much appreciated..

KF.

I had a musty smell, assuming it came from the aircon, went into our local cheapy shop, bought a £1 tin of dettol antibac spray (aerosol type), ran the engine, turned the aircon on full, recirc, wound the window down an inch, stood outside, and sprayed the whole can in thru the gap in the window

Smells gone.....

I sprayed Febreeze Anti Bac into the vents (when Off) and it cleared my smelly aircon :D

the wifes passat had the proper treatment from VW when the A/C needed a regas. I know which onw was chapest

Swmbo?

You can get a aircon aerosol from most motor factors that is designed to clear the aircon system and the bacteria build up and flush out the system in recirc mode. You basically de press the aerosol that desperses into a closed car. Around a tenner. Or you could try the cheaper method mentioned.

Thanks for the advice... I tried an aerosol of OUST air freshener which has helped but maybe fabreze or anti bacterial like dettol spray will fully cure..

Thanks to all ...

:( On my old Ocy or Fabia the scuttle under the windscreen for the wiper motor/linkage had water collecting across the whole area which was caused by leaves etc blocking the drainage holes, water would then spill onto the cabin air filter creating a musky smell, to gain access to the area to clean it and clean the cabin filter you have to remove the wiper arms, remove the bonnet rubber sealing strip and lift up the plastic which has a lip going into a slot just below the windsceen, the drain holes were at either end near the wings. cheers - Stuart.
