Temp gauge issue

Featured Replies

I've noticed lately the water will get up to temp... then it'll decrease by maybe one line for a while then go back up to the middle.

It'll do this a few times, I even noticed about 20 minutes of driving earlier it had dipped below again.

Before it'd just get to the middle and stay there for good.

Any ideas? I'm guessing that because it's not going over it's more likely to be the sensor than waterpump etc...

Could be the temp sensor starting to fail or maybe the car knows the weather is changing and its colder :D

Temp sensors are a common prob if the car has done over 70,000 miles.

I agree that its likely to be the water temperature sensor on the way out.

Thanks chaps, thought it'd be something like that. Car has done 88k miles, so quite likely.

Something that needs to get looked at asap? I don't know if it affects anything apart from that gauge...

It can make you have starting trouble as if the sensor is reading wrong the cars computer will have a rich fuel mixture,

If the cars computer thinks the car is cold when its upto normal tempreture it will add more fuel because it thinks the car is cold when really its not this can then cause other problems like cutting out at junctions and revs not idling right (up & down), i would get it done before the winter sets in.
