Engine noise after cambelt change

Featured Replies

Had cabbelt changed along with tensioner and water pump a couple of months ago.(1999 1.8T 45000 miles) Recently engine started to make a loose tappet like noise. Noise not evident when starting from cold, seems to start as soon as engine reaches operating temp. Returned it to the garage on Friday, who agree that there is an unusual noise, they will inspect on Monday, looks like another bill and more lost confidence in the this car.

It;s not the charcoal canister or the injectors, I flushed and replaced oil & filter, but noise was the same. It's coming from the cambelt area so it's not the camchain. I think that it may be the waterpump (this was replaced when cambelt was done) with a metal impeller type from AVS.:

mad::confused::thumbdwn:

I know you mention injectors but i had a similar problem and there was a problem with one of the wires that was going to one of the injectors.

Hope you get it sorted

I'm inclined to suspect the new tensioner, in which case there's a 12 month warranty on OEM parts.

All parts replaced again, engine now sounds OK, this time all OEM (tensioner, rollers, waterpump) previos parts were not oem from AVS. Looks like the roller on the tensioner has a fair amount of play. I will be trying to get a refund on parts from AVS. They already replied to my initiall communication by indicating that the roller from the oem cambelt kit, should have been used rather than the roller on the tensioner. Sounds like to me that they may be aware of this problem as they indicated that if this roller was faulty only the cost of that roller would be refunded and not the cost of the tensioner. Anyway be warned if you are using aftermarket parts, I probably will not be again as this has cost me £200 more than it should have.
