Hi

Im stephen, i'm form Ireland! i currently drive a 1999 Nissan Almera GTI P2

i am currently looking at buying a Skoda superb thats for sale beside me,

Its a 2003 1.9 Tdi Comfort (130bhp) it has 138k miles. and i'd like to enquire is tis much for these engines, this car currently has coilovers and 18" Rs6 alloys, Looks flash for £3,500 pounds.

It these high miles with part service history anything to worry about?

Welcome,

No the mileage is nothing at all, provided the correct oil has been used the will easily double that and some.

What do you call a part service history though? When was the cambelt changed?

Got a link or pics to the car in question?

Been running my Superb for a long time now and service the car either myself or at a non dealer outfit and I am currently on 162k..............

Superbs are built to last however a decent service history is always an advantage. I assume the previous owner is a cbby. Cabbies tend to take care of their cars so a service history from 100k will be an advantage. Cam belts and wayer pump change are essential

I'd be wrangling on the price tbh, £3500 for an 03 mid spec with nearly 140k on it is imo a bit on the high side, I'd be looking at £2500 and maybe £3000 at a push if I really wanted it.

Hey!!

He told me that the car has skoda service history from 2003 - 2006! (Not sure on millege figures)

I'm going to view the car tomorow. :)

Heres the link..

Ok, personally i wouldnt bother as a part service history which isnt even to date with such high milage would concern me. After market non OEM extras dont increase the car value. Insurance will be higher (however sometimes buyers arent too bothered about this). Price is way too high (i should of mentioned this before) and £2.5k would be a price considerable for a viewing.

I bought a seat leon a while back with rs4 original alloys (not replicas). This didnt effect the buying or selling price. Beware of cut springs for lowering the car. There is no mention of which coilovers have been installed.

Looks like it's in good condition from the pictures, ride height looks spot on and if it says it has coliovers then I wouldn't worry about 'cut springs'..........

The paintwork seems to be beading nicely and it looks like it's been looked after but I can only say that from those pics, did you have a closer look at it? What was the interior like?

I'd say that looks like a pretty tidy car. Can't see a huge amount from the pictures but it sits well and seems well cared for judging by the paintwork. The alloys set it off nicely too.

As for the service history, yeah ok it's nice if it's all Skoda stamped, but any VAG garage is just as good. in my opinion.

Mileage-wise, I'd use that as a bargaining point. I mean it's still got life in the car and they're built to last but 140k isn't exactly low mileage. The upholstery and pedals will be showing signs of wear by now I'd have thought.

Take it for a spin. See if all the panels line up straight, see if it starts/stops in a straight line, check carpets for moisture etc then make him an offer. Only, you can tell he's spent some time on the motor so criticising it harshly to get a lower price will just p*** him off. Be honest with him, the residuals are so low on the Superb that if it's in good nick you'll still grab a bargain.

If he's asking for £3,500 he'll likely be looking for £3,250 ..... but work it a little and maybe you'll get it for £3k if you have cash on the day. Good luck.
