1.6 Chain Driven?

Featured Replies

Just flicking through my service schedule and noticed that 1.6/77KW is exempt from any timing belt changes, anyone know is it chain driven?

Go have a look!

It's fairly easy to differentiate between belt/chain drive!

AFAIK the 1.6 petrol engine is cambelt. The engine you refer to may the the new 1.6 CR diesel engine which I think is camchain.

Old 1,6 petrol is a cam belt engine, the newest pre TSI 1,6 engine has got a chain driven crank-cam set up, and the new diesel 1,6 cr engine is a belt engine, like all both 1,6 and 2,0 cr diesel engines. The 3 cyl petrol engine in the Fabia that used to be chain driven, is now being set up to run a cam belt and a lighter crank shaft to make it more silent and economical.

A cool pub fact is that the 1,6 CR uses a separate toothed rubber belt even for driving the oilpump in the engine sump..

I got my Fabia 2 12 12v brand new on the 15th September - do you think it will be belted or chain driven?

So is the 1.6 16v BTS the newer chain driven unit then, the service schedule only mentions belt changes on the diesels and other petrols but says except 1.6 77kw. It does rattle a bit in the morning until warmed up

Proly the pistons rattling a tad until warmed up! Quite common on these short skirt low friction pistons. Not harmful to the engine as you most likely know.
