Octavia L&K Cornering Foglights?

Featured Replies

Hi, My wife has just collected her new Octavia L&K Estate (very nice) and we have been checking through all the many features on it. When you read the manual it mentions that there are cornering foglights (not to be confused with the steering Xenons that it has) and when you go through all the settings on the (MFD) computer, sure enough, there is a tick box to turn them on/off. The problem is that whichever setting you use nothing seems to work!

We challanged our dealer on this and he says that "it is not in the computer fot the Octavia models" this does not seem to make much sense if everything is there and just needs switching on - can anyone shed any light on this (excuse the pun!).

Whilst talking to the dealer he said that he could turn on daytime running light if we wanted.

If we ask for this does it use the sidelights or the bulb in the foglamp cluster next to the actual foglight, or would this be the cornering foglight bulb? The car has got automatic headlights fitted.

Does anyone know about any of the above please???

The cornering fog lights activate when the headlamps are on and the engine is running, they will illuminate depending on the steering input fading on and off rather than coming on instantly, they will not work at speeds greater than 40 km/h

My pre FL Octavia L&K has one bulb in the foglamp cluster which is used as the cornering light, it needs to be bright as it is supposed to improve visibility when manouvering and shows poeple your intended direction of travel.

I had to enable mine with my VCDS software so they might not be enabled on your car.

IIRC the daylight runners are the smaller lamps in the foglight cluster. One of the Ford people carriers (S-Max and/or Galaxy) has them in the foglight fitting as well.

I had them switched on for a while via VCDS on my vRS, but found the benefit of them to be minimal.

Having heard the comments of a fellow Briskodian when I followed him in Newbury when we went to the national meet, they seemed to be very confusing for him, as whenever I pulled out to overtake parked vehicles, the cornering lights came on, and I didn't even realise - that shows the level of benefit you get. However, the fog lights in the vRS are sunk into the bumper, so you might get a greater benefit from an L & K.

Hope that helps

Cheers for that... now where can I get a copy of this VCDS software, and the wiring diagram for the cable I will need?

Are you really sure you want to switch the feature on? (Mercedes have had this 'borderline illegal' feature for a few years). It will be an annoyance to most other road users & you can expect to be given the full beam treatment!!
