Whining Diff on Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi Campers,

My wife's VRS has developed a whine, most noticeable at 30-40mph, from the front nearside and offside. Jabbasport have had a look, and reckon it's the diff. Car has only done 70k miles, FSH, and never trackdayed. New diff is £400.00 plus fitting. Anyone else had this problem and had one actually fail? Any recourse to Skoda? I'd expect more than 70k from a diff!

not uncommon on these its the rivets that hold the diff together. thats why the best mod on these is to replace the diff with an uprated item...

has the car been mapped or is it bog standard???

not good as it is very expensive to fit...:o

Thanks - Jabbasport generic remap.

there is a problem as you wont be able to go to skoda and say that this should have lasted longer etc etc as you have altered the engine therefore shortened the life of the diff:O:O

it is a common problem but i must say if your replacing it you might as well go for a lsd for a few more quid as not only this last forever but will transform the car its like night and day trust me its amazing ;):D:D

mine has started to do this :thumbdwn: they dont like the extra power

What would be the labour cost do you reckon on that job?

dont know but its lots of money as its a full strip down of box:O

thats because you went k04 and to behonest if you go down this road you should have changed the diff as the car is not a patch on a ko3s with diff because you cant get the power down

Try changing the transmission fluid first, it won't fix the problem completely but might well buy you another 10k-20k of life.

I recently changed fluid after 6yrs/95k miles. Vibration gone, whining gone. Old fluid was dark brown and visibly non-uniform. So much for lifetime fill...

Old fluid was VW G 052 726 A2, I have now poured in Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75W-80 - works very well.

Get it sorted now as its bad news if it goes pop (New box). Mine went at 75k miles but did a few track days. They don't like torque at all.

I replaced mine with a Quaife diff and makes a massive difference to the car is many ways.

what was the cost mate

what was the cost mate

I'm in Ireland but got my Diff from Jabba in the uk.

Diff £750 roughly

Fitted to box by a gearbox specialist cost me €250 or £210ish

I swapped the box myself but its handy enough for a mechanic to do. So a half days labour roughly..

Altogether your probably talkin just over a grand!!

I also installed Quaife QDF10R LSD for 02J transmissio 5 speed.

I am interested how went the installation.

My mechanic told me that there was a lack of 1mm that has to be made in housing to accomodate LSD and to allow free operation of it. Any experience regarding that??

That should be it.

The guy who did it is the most experienced in out town among mechanics for the transmission.

He did the installation adn found that it rotates not as he expected so he did that.
