Hi,

I was looking at my discs and pads today and they look abit low so i think they'll need changing soon.

I was wondering what discs and pads to go for?

I was thinking about the following :

brembo ,

ebc,

mintex,

tarox,

black diamond,

standard skoda stuff,

police spec ones if i can get them,

Any others i should think about?

Febi discs + EBC yellow pads work for me.

OEM discs (Brembo OEM spec will be fine too) and EBC red ceramic work well for me here.

I went for standard disks and red stuff pads but I am still not 100% that my brakes are bled out properly so not sure how good they should/could be (better than the original 288's though :D).

Fitted Mintex pads and discs all round and 5.1 fluid to another vRS the other week and doesn't seem to have made a blind bit of difference over standard, but the discs were better quality and there's no mooing or squealing from the pads. Possibly needs to be bled again though.

The best combinations for the front (going by cars on here) seems to be drilled or grooved discs by Brembo, Black Diamond or Tar-Ox and some decent pads like Ferodo DS2500's however that little lot will cost a few hundred quid, and you will never get stopping power like you would with an upgrade to 4 or 6 pot calipers (which are megabucks!)

I'd never use slotted/drilled/light alloy rotors again. They eat pads up in no time, and light alloy ones have actually lowerr friction (at least the ones I tried a few years back) so you need to push brake pedal harder.

I agree that uprated brake callipers may work better, but for anyone with stock brakes,

an uprated pads + OEM spec steel discs + DOT5.1 fluid combo is probably best performance/price upgrade. On models with FN3 callipers, there is also a relatively low cost upgrade of front brake disc carriers (and discs) from 288mm to 312mm to lower heat loading and increase stopping power.

In my experience, Skoda rotors do warp easier with kevlar pads than most aftermarket ones, That's why I have used Febi for the last 8 discs, but I am sure other brands will also do well. I used standard EBC discs before, Febis are cheaper though.

Got Brembo High Carbon OEM discs on the front, and Zimmerman OEM rears. Used to use Mintex Xtreme pads, but now on Pagid OEM pads all round. I also use DOT 4 fluid.

The thing that made the biggest difference was going from worn old front discs that overheated the whole time, to the Brembo ones that have never overheated. I can stand on the Brembos at high speed, and they never complain!

As long as the standard vRS brakes are well maintained, and fitted with quality parts, I think they are pretty good.

Is that question aimed at me? If it is, then I got my Brembo HC front discs from GSF car parts (one in most towns), for something like £80 or £90 for the pair.
