Bel 966R versus Bel 975R

Featured Replies

Looking to buy radar/laser detector. ( aware that GPS systems aare probably better but will be living in Rep Of Ireland so of no use to me)

Want to buy a Bel 966R for couple of reasons

Detectors are illegal in Ireland and 966R has two big advantages. Mounted inside front grill with small unit inside car so no scrambling to get it off the dash if it goes off and it has stealth technology preventing police from detecting if you are using a detector.

The question I have is looking on the net I see the 966R is about

The only problem with getting an american one is that they often use different bands, I think it might be KU or KX, or something like that. When I had one from america it would go off all the time, false alarms.

I thought all detectors were invisible to police detection as they are only receiving a signal and not sending?

Think you might be right. Have done some more investigation on the net and while they are the same unit it looks as if the US is tuned to different bands/frequencies. (there goes

I live in Ireland, and have a 966R fitted. WOrks fine, and I bought it via the US. It is the third detector I have had, and is effective on the old "hairdryers" and Gatso's. As with all detectors claiming Laser detection, what they dont tell you is that you only have 0.5 of a second (roughly), before they get have a reading. Unfortunately, more and more mobile laser sites are on the go here..... think long and hard about getting a laser-jammer..... getting caught with one fitted might get you done for something like "perverting the course of Justice". Dont know of any such cases, but I have read a few bits on it.

All in all, not a bad unit in my humble opinion.

Cheers for that. Did you buy it named as a 966r or was it called the 975R.

Do you happen to remember where you bought it from website/shop etc. I will be out in the states next week so would be good opportunity to pick one up.

Thanks

My current one is the 966LR I think.... I have the box at home with all the details. Will pm you later.
