Coolant level sensor

Featured Replies

JUST HAD A 40.000 SERVICE, WITH BRAKE FLUID CHANGE AND HALDEX OIL CHANGE ,I ALL SO ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR AS THE WARNING LOW COOLANT KEEPS COMING ON THE MAXIDOT , I HAVE CHECK THE COOLANT BUT THE LEVEL IS OK , THE DEALER RESPONSE IS THAT THE COOLANT IS CONTAMINATED WITH WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW, THEY THINK ITS EITHER OIL OR FUEL BUT ONLY IN SMALL AMOUNTS ,THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY HAVE SET UP A CASE WITH SKODA AND I'M TO BOOK IT IN FOR 3 DAYS FOR TESTS , THIS LEADS ME TO BE LEAVE THEY KNOW WOT IT IS, OR THAT SKODA KNOW WOT IT IS, THE DEALERS PARTING SHOT WAS IF IT NEEDS AN ENGINE ITS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, ENY ONE COME ACROSS THIS !!

Firstly, please find your caps lock key because it's considered rude/shouting to use all capitals.

If there is oil in the coolant, and you haven't tipped it in the header tank yourself, then it's probably head gasket failure. I'm not aware of it being a common problem on these cars though.

The head gasket keeps the oil in the engine seperate from the coolant which runs through keeping everything cool. If it fails, then oil can get in the coolant (making it mucky and less efficient) and coolant can get in the oil, creating emulsified oil (you can sometimes see it under the oil filler, it will look like mayonaisse). It can also cause mis-fires and if left untreated, the engine will eventually sieze/overheat/go pop. If cought early, it's usually fixable...

Oops try this , The contamination is an oily film on top of the coolant its not as if the contamination has emulsified , the warning has been coming on for a few weeks with no other symptoms , will just have to see what dealer comes up with ,who i have to say have never let me down.

as a skoda techy i would very much doubt it is the head gasket but more likely to be the oil cooler its not uncommon for these units to fail and what happens is oil gets into the cooling system and makes its way to the top i.e. expansion bottle.

looking at the cooler,it would appear the dealer has had it apart (new hose clips) so they must be thinking the same.

In the expansion bottle aer 2 metal sticks, try to clean them with a schrull driver. I have this problem after replacing the water pump and filling up the cooling sistem at the right level (before was too much). For the moment my car is ok but afer reading this thread I must pay close atension to the coolant because it may be not the sensor in my cas too.
