Hi all, Thinking of buying a Haynes Mk5 Golf manual for my 06 Octy 1.9tdi as I understand they both use the same chassis & running gear & the manual also covers the same diesel engine.Does anyone know if this is correct & would the manual be of much help?:confused:

For the most part, yes it would be exactly the same. How useful it would be would depend on what you are actually going to use it for. Some of the interior stuff would be similar, but I would only use it as a rough guide in that case. Running gear wise, if it was not exactly the same it would be very, very close.

Get yourself on Ebay and get a proper DVD based manual, it wipes the floor with a Haynes!

Thanks for all replies,off to buy one tomorrow. I have DVD but find it continually refering to special tools,whereas Haynes often get round the probllem using standard tools. Thanks again.

Yeah thats the one I bought, its very good. It takes a while to install but it its worth the effort.

The one I got doesnt like Vista though,it only works on my XP machine, worth checking with the vendor if you only have Vista.

It's a copy disk and therefore almost certainly illegal software!!

Still worth having

If it's being sold by a vendor with 100% feedback who has multiple copies I reckon its legitimate enough. This sort of information should be included with every new car anyway as far as I'm concerned - obviously repairs are at your own risk (And doing it while the car has a dealer warranty is probably not a good plan), but it's not like there's less risk than doing it yourself depending on where you take it. I found a bottle 2 litre of cider in the engine bay of my mother's car after taking it back after being in for a service - the car never gave any trouble though it was 1990 Galant, so pretty much bombproof for the decade we ran it for...

If you're going to have a knocked off copy of elsawin, just download it yourself, save yourself 7 quid and avoid financing some prat's scrotty little ebay operation.
