airbag fault codes

Featured Replies

i changed the front seats from seats with side airbags to seats without. i have left the plugs disconnected under the front seats but the light has come on on the dash. how can i get that light taken off? is it a resister job or do i need it de-programmed?

fault codes are as follows:

1218Side Airbag Igniter; Front Passenger Side (N200): Resistance too High1217Side Airbag Igniter; Front Driver Side (N199): Resistance too High

thanks in advance

You need the resistors in each airbag plug and then the light turned off with VCDS.

This way the airbags that are still fitted will still work if needed.

do you know what resistance resistors i need?

Well from trying this out today I can tell you 0.6 ohm is too low and 4.6 is too high.....

something around 2 ohm should be ok as far as I know

ok cool. thank you. which wires did you put the reisitor into?

You should be able to get the coding changed for the control unit a lot of the airbag control units are the same its just the code that dictates the equipment recognised by the control unit if you know someone with vagcom they should be able to do it i can find out the correct coding if you like!!!

i think airbag resistances are usually around the 2.2-2.4 ohm range , so 2.3 ohm would be ok

although i have never tested a VAG one , this is what resistance the Mazda,Ford and Volvo ones seem to be

all done and dusted. did it tonight.

i ended up with a 2.2 ohm white block resistor. bought it from maplin. worked a treat. stuck it in the 2 different coloured wires, i.e not the brown earth wire. all done. looks strange now. lol

special thanks to suze. for the rating and advice.

the resistor will do for now until i can get somebody with vagcom to remove it completely.

Not trying to be a pain, but VW explicitly forbids the use of resistors on some models and I'm quite certain that this is the case here as well! To be 100% sure it would be necessary to see the control module identification from an Auto-Scan.

well after doing a fault code check to clear the light off. nothing has come back on. did another fault code reading today and nothing came up.

its a temperary fix until i can get vag com to decode the seat airbags.

does any body know who to do this by the way?
