Featured Replies

i have a 2006 octavia vrs tfsi and when i first start it in the morning it takes a wee bit longer than normal to start, its like it misses then it fires up , u could switch it straight off when it starts and start it again and its fine ????? its starting to bug me now

Sounds similar to mine but I get a few misfires whilst driving which you can just feel but which I occasionally get a fault code from, until it warms up fully. They suffer from carbon build up on the intake valves due to direct injection. I need to take my inlet manifold off sometime and have a good clean out. Has yours covered many miles?

Dirty fuel filter?

i am going to give it a good service this weekend a hope this solves it lol

Mine does the same thing every morning. It starts rather "heavily" (as if there were low fuel pressure). No fault codes however. My dealer was not able to help me with this.

I have some news for you, but I am afraid you are not going to like it very much!

Unfortuantely you have one of many TFSI BWA engines that seem to suffer this codition, mine did exactly the same, no ryme or reason, sometimes fire straight away, sometimes as though it would cough and splutter...........key off and start no problem, kill the ignition and every time no problems..........

Mine was an 56 plate and she went back and forth to the dealers, no fault found, in the end I gave up and lived with it.

I know someboy (forum member) who had a 56 plate TFSI VRS and had no such problems, he traded in for I think a 57 and from memory he had this issue..........

Have a look here as this issue is big on the US Golf MK5 forum............GTI / Rabbit / Golf MkV General Discussions - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com

BTW, I don't have the car anymore but do have the new VRS with the new TSI engine............all I can say is what a difference the new unit is, so advanced of the TFSI...............

As the fuel is injected directly into the cylinders it bypasses the inlet valves so no fuel additive will work. Some of the Yanks frequently take the inlet Manifold off and clean by hand, it's the only way to do it properly. I intend to do this in a week or two to try get rid of the last small amount of cold start misfires. There is one product available to put through the air intake post MAF, Wynns direct injection power 3. I don't know any one who has tried this on our engines but I know of a couple who have tried it on RS4's and said it worked quite well.

Out of interest do any of you who suffer this cold start problem have high oil consumption?

Could also be worth changing the plugs as these have quite a long service interval.

Did that, no differece.....Hence the fact that we just lived with it!

Doesn't sound good I would drop it by the dealers. Maybe temp sensor???

I agree - could be temp sensor, crank sensor etc. These can give trouble but not throw up a fault code.
