tuneing ? i have a freind that sells DTUK boxes have people used these on there vrs or should i be looking at a remap

front cupra splitter is it just bolt on or does it need modding?

what air filter works best on the vrs? on the vxr's they dont like induction kits so i went for a panel fillter would you recomend this with the air box mod?

and last but not least i will need some PVC type seat covers front and back to keep the seats clean as my work can some times be abit messy:( can you point me in the right direction

any way i look forward to sharing my progress with you thanks in advance

simon

Do you think it is wise to start to tune up a car with 140K miles on it? especially as you say you do high mileage.

Hope the car is as good as you hope:thumbup:

its been looked after and i dont drive like a idiot so it should be ok my vectra has done 137k and thats tuned and still going strong just its age letting that down i will just carry on as i have with other cars oil change every 6k full service every 12k look after them and the look after you lol

I do remember reading on this forum that a re-map was done on a skoda with 170K and delivered one of the best results seen.

Although you've bought an older VRS, I think for 3K that is a bargain. I'd certainly buy that for 3K at 140K miles. A re-map may kill the turbo but if you've got the car for 3K in mint condition otherwise, the risk of having to replace the turbo seems worth taking... in my honest opinion.

Could you ask if the clutch has ever been replaced, at 140K you'd expect it may have been? Though I have seen members posting on this forum at similar mileage on the original clutch.

I think you'll find that most on here agree that changing the air filter every 10K with a VAG OEM one for £10 is the best viable option. Recall seeing someone with a performance filter gain 2BHP on a rolling road.. worth it?! Plus, there was a member who couldn't get over 40MPG (trip computer) out of his VRS. Replaced the filter with the OEM part and MPG returned to normal instantly so they can't be that bad!

Still can't believe you've grabbed it for 3K with decent service history and full MOT? Want to swap :D

Sorry to hear about the vxr being stolen, I find the meriva vxr's quite funny as there just a little box basically but with a propper engine in it lol

I never thought I would drive a skoda either but here I am and I haven't looked back, the fabia vrs is a fantastic car :D

I dont know anything about the DTUK boxes you mention but i think a few people have something similar on there vrs's ?

The cupra splitter needs a couple of small cuts in it IIRC so that it doesnt sag in the middle when fixed to the bumper

Fitting guide here http://briskoda.net/general-technical-guides/guide-how-fit-leon-front-splitter/44969/

For an air filter alot of people use a panel filter with the larger intake pipe from the PD160 engine, all the details are here http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/pd160-intake-pipe-definitive-thread/57557/

I have no doubt there would be good gains, it’s just my experience with cars (mine and colleagues) with high miles on them of around 150K, are getting towards that point when something major will be waiting in the wings. So I reasoned that if the OP does, say 40K in 2 years, he might well be chancing his luck with the clutch/transmission chain.

Only imho of course

just because it has a woman driver previously doesn't mean it wasn't driven like it was stolen 18_3_108.gif

edit: sorry that wasn't meant to be a reference to the OPs unfortunate earlier theft of his car

tuneing ? I have a freind that sells dtuk boxes have people used these on there vrs or should i be looking at a remap  remap, boxes are waste of time imo. Go with a reputable company. Make sure you have a healthy turbo/clutch, perhaps rr it first.

front cupra splitter is it just bolt on or does it need modding? i am starting to think there are more splitters on vrs' than cupras...

what air filter works best on the vrs? On the vxr's they dont like induction kits so i went for a panel fillter would you recomend this with the air box mod? standard filters are fine. 40 quid ones give you the placebo effect.

Hello SI Vxr,

As to PVC seat covers I bought mine from Hatchbag.

Have used them since the car was new June 2005, bit pricey but got to say well worth the money.

Fronts were £70 same again for the rear, but add, they are designed for the Fabia VRS in mind and really do fit the bucket seats.

They are washed in a washer at a cool temperature, and the only flaw being biege, they are sun-faded, but not a sign of wear and tear, if you catch my drift.

Must add, I have no connection to this company.

As said, you get what you pay for.

thanks guys here is the link to my new motor

Headley Motors - Autoweb

i know just because it was a lady owner doesnt mean it hasnt been ragged but by looking at the condition of it i would say its been looked after 6 year old and it looks like new no kurbed alloys very clean paint work and interior ect plus no expenses has been spared on it 6 years of skoda services aint cheap so shes cared about it there are even print outs for all the tyres she has bought since day one when i looked at the SH i only thing i spotted above norm was a leeking rad that was replaced but other than that no clutch/gearbox change so IMO she's not driven it hard otherwise there would be a bill from it being done well im hopeing it hasnt lol only time will tell.

Looks very tidy indeed that mate I think you're going to enjoy it, the vRS is an awesome car.

i must say i have learnt something from this thread , i never knew Vauxhall did a Meriva VXR :o
