Yet another car needed thread from me

Featured Replies

Well it is a sad day- the Rusty has passed away today :(

Refused to start and now refuses to turn over.

Grandma has agreed to allow me to get a car with the money she was going to give me next year as per my over thread.

So i want something fun, frugal(ish), good looking, realatively cheap to insure and tax etc.

My Budget is 2.4-3k so- what do you all recomend?

Good to see you aren’t pouring all the money into the car. It’s a sensible move and show great maturity

Something like the previous Seat Toleado 1.9 130tdi with sports suspension might be an interesting left field choice. I had one and it was not only quick, but handled a lot better than my previous mkIV Golf (same chassis) and did over 50mpg on the motorway, partly thanks to a very tall 6th gear. Good spec too (even had electric folding mirrors!) and you should be able to find one easily in your budget without too many miles on it.

This is identical to mine

Citroen Saxo 1.4 Furio, my brother has one (and is totally standard)

Edit: try and keep away from the chavved up ones, my brother paid £2k for a mint condition '52' reg with 40k miles on it last year

Sorry Chris- Really don't like them

How about a Fabia

  • Author

Chris just looking now on the trader at them- not sure though se what shows up

If a FSH is important, milage will be 100k+.

I paid £2300 for mine, FSH and 109700miles

Yeah?

Just looking now seems there is loads of 1.2 petrols/1.4 petrol. Not found any tdis yet.

Your all going to say im stupid for this but what about a Alfa Diesal?

I think based on the known fact they lose money like the banks lost money last year that i should be able to get a newish (52 plate to 54 plate) deisel anyone got any comments i should think about against this?

Bearing in mind they are cheap- fun to drive- good econmey- and its a Alfa to its beautiful to look at. And the beneifit of a avery good and reliable desiel engine right? I mean they wouldn't get to be on company car lists if they were crap would they?

The price of diesel Fabia's start at £1700+

I think the Alfa's use Fiat's 1.9

Really?? were theres non on the trader that i can see

Is there anything wrong with the fiat jtd engines? are they as good as the skoda/vw ones?

The Fiat JTD engines are very good (ask Sharkrider), but you will struggle to find one in an Alfa for the price your looking at

chris- 2005 ALFA ROMEO 147 1.9 JTD Lusso 5dr Diesel ?

I now its over by 800 quid but there ya go as a example there are cheaper ones

The only reason i say this is with the fabia i may get tempted to create a vrs look a like and spend money modifying it- which i ideally want to avoid

How many NCB/years experience driving do you have

  • Author

4 years ncd, not been driving for a while till last year. Im 24/25.

I did used to work for Alfa romeo and ran one of those as a demo but i never got to own one.

I did use my demo to go all over the place- down to london, cornwall etc etc I always thought it was a good work car as i 18 then- but ive always wondered what it would be like to run one as my own car

You should be OK for insurance, running costs, you will probably know about.

  • Author

well im thinking they are both 1.9 tdis, both 5 door, both within budget (not that example though) the 147 is higher on insurance but has abit more kit then the fabia and i wont be tempted to mod it. seen as ya can really mod a 147 can ya.

Remap?

  • Author

nah ya can-t can ya? and even if ya could i don't think id want to- its not a vrs lol

You could get them down closer to £3k
