AAAArrrrrrggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Here we go yet again.

Plasma has a slightly better picture quality in terms of contrast and colour, where as LCD is generally sharper and better to watch in bright light.

a puppy has just been killed......

we just got a Samsung PS50B530S from Currys for £664, it's a 50" 1080P plasma and everything we've put on it has looked pretty damn good so far

No it's not

The simple fact of the matter is, if you buy anything other than a Panasonic plasma, you've bought the wrong telly.

;)

I just lined up some kittens against the wall.. who wishes to continue?

You have to do some research in order to find the best LCD TV that meets your criteria. Read the reviews most especially the ones coming from the experts in order to know the pros and cons about a particular product. This is very helpful if you want to get the best bang for your buck. Just my 2 cents.

If you want cheap you're going to get an LCD.

If you want 50" then how far away from it are you sitting as there is a chance you will see the pixel boundaries if you are too close.

50" plus quality, plus cheap don't really go together.

If I was in the market for a reasonably priced (not cheap) 50" telly right now, it'd have to be a Panasonic TX-P50G10. You can get them for £929.95 (Richer Sounds). The Samsung LCDs are getting better all the time too, but they don't do a nice 50" for less than the Panny anyway.

cheezemonkhai's right in saying 50" plus quality, plus cheap don't really go together.

And 50" on LCD format doesn't exactly result in a quality picture.

Paul, why have you stated those requirements, or what's important to you?

It's the usual thing really; size, quality, price - you can chose two of the three...

What made you settle on 50" ? That is very big, and to get the quality to really get the most out of it, it isn't going to be particularly cheap.

Don't mean to be condescending at all :)

And I'm notice I didn't mention the three letter acronym or the six letter word

Xav is proud to delcare that no kittens were harmed as a result of this post
