Extended warranties

Featured Replies

Hmm offer came through to extend my Fabia VRS dealer/manufacturer warranty for another year - £349. I really dunno whether to bother, it is some peace of mind but I figure that a £349 repair that is actually covered within the terms is fairly doubtful to happen, the car is only an 06 plate on around 53k but will need the cambelt change next year. I guess going with it now I lose a chunk of cash but gain peace of mind - not extend it and I have a bit more cash but risk having to fork out the whole sum for any potential major repairs. Fairly cynical about warranties, anyone have any positive stories?!

Warranty direct extra care looks quite good actually - includes turbocharger and suspension bushes, those old VRS chestnuts  No mention of DMF though...

DMF may be covered under clutch - if clutch is covered of course! Worth checking with them directly though, to be certain.

My warranty expires in 3 weeks and i was told by SUK customer services that they don,t have there own extended warranty but use 3rd party companies and reffered me to CCP as one.My dealer ahs quoted me £395 for one but i don,t know who its with but he said its just like the 3rd year of your existing warranty with no limits/exclusions

Its true that (like most manufacturers) Skoda don't offer their own extended warranty - they just 'rebrand' the Car Care Plan warranty. CCP are a massive outfit (part of GM) and supply warranties to a lot of manufacturers (e.g. Alfa, Bentley, Vauxhall etc etc).

It is NOT true to say that the cover is the same as the factory warranty - its not, there are a lot of exclusions (remember that anything not mentioned as covered is effectively excluded).

Well looked into an extended warranty companies in detail today.

CCP are not very helpful and not much info on website or pricing so give them a miss (SUK recommended also)

Warranty Direct are very detailed indeed about there warranty deals on 2 levels: Major Cover and Luxury Cover (the best one). They have a very big list of the whats covered and what isn,t etc and Luxury is deffo the best.I won,t be using there network of garages and settled for Main dealer which works out at £5 more a month so isn,t that bad.The only downside to that is that you have to pay the bill first and then they reimburse you after whereas with there network of garages (independants) the authorization and work is done and then they settle with the garage but thats not really a prob.

I would say that Warranty Direct is the better one and will be buying from them.Buy a 12 month cover and they give you 13 months

CCP do relatively little retail business, they mainly supply warranties which are rebadged and sold on by dealers and manufacturers.

I took out a Warranty Direct warranty on my Octavia when the manufacturer's warranty was up. Skoda didn't have one available at the time which met FSA requirements. I subsequently changed to Skoda's extended warranty a year later because it offered better cover. But the best advice I can offer is to do what I did and get hold of copies of the warranties you are considering then compare them closely. The big disadvantage of Warranty Direct's cover is that it for named components only - and that didn't include the Haldex on my 4X4.

In the past i have had both FORD and VAUXHALL extended warranty and all i can say is they were not worth the paper they were written on. So many get out clauses and as said before, you have to pay out for the repair first and then try and claim back the money.

If it was me, i would take the chance without one
