Fabia VRS Gear Linkage to gear selector rod

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just after some help and advice, I was driving along and suddenly completely lost all gears. I seem to have found the reason, it looks like the bolt that holds the gear linkage counter weight had somehow sheared.. I have attached a picture showing the rod with the thread sheared on the top.

I just wondered if I am now going to have to replace the whole rod, or does the top part marked in red come off?

Thanks for your advice,

Tony

You will need a complete gearshift assembly. It just unbolts from the gearbox (in situ), and the new one just slots in. IIRC the part is about £175.

The gearbox can remain in the car to do the repair.

Thanks alot, I'll get onto skoda then regarding the parts.

Does the whole thing just bolt on then from them 2 bolts?

Does it need a gasket? Also, is this an easy DIY?

Thanks again

Couple of bolts and a new sealing ring and jobs done. Might need to remove battery tray for better access though. Can't remember if the tray prevents extraction of the old change shaft. Probably an hours job.

Hi Again,

I got the parts this morning, went ahead and popped the old one off with the car in neutral. Went to put the new one in and its really difficult, and now for some reason the car has gone into reverse. Is there a particular way this is supposed to go back in?

Thanks again for your help on this.

Well done mate, glad it's fixed. It can be tricky getting the new part to mesh correctly with the selector rods.
