HP laptop help please

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a hp laptop well its a compaq 6910p running windows xp pro. Anyway I went to use the hp recovery console as its not been flattened ever I think and the pc is just getting stuck in the pc recovery you know the black and white bar then I get a blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume. I have researched hp.com/uk for help but all it says is to insert your recovery disc. But stupid me never made one. So what now can I download a boot disc and burn it to cd or dvd. I have a set of six bootable floppies downloaded from microsoft for my operating system but no floppy drive to my laptop???????????????

Any help at all guys please

Thanks in advance Dave....

help anyone please.

what are you trying to do?

I tried doing doing a clean install of xp pro as the hp recovery programme did not work and now I am stuck on a blue screen???????

Sounds like the hard drive could be on its way out, if its bsoding on the recovery section then theres a good chance the drive has had it. Could be anything in all honesty though.

Can you get your hands on an Xp install disc ????

I have a xp pro disc, but its quite old now so may be scratched, could that be stopping the install?? Laptop was in full working order prior to me messing with it lol

If you boot from the xp disc you can run the xp recovery section and then use chkdsk too make sure the disc has no errors on it.

if the XP disk is blue screening, chances are its an old one and does not support SATA controllers. You need an XP disk that has at least SP2 integrated then it should boot from that and run fine. I get this a lot at work when rebuilding newer PCs until I switch the SP2 install media.

I have now tried booting with a newer xp pro disc with sp2, but i still get a blue screen which says

setup did not find any hard disc drives installed in your computer.

I have run the hard drive self test which was good and also a memory test which was also good

Any help please..

You need too find the right sata driver for your mobo then press f6 at boot. but you don't have a floppy drive so your stuck really

You could slipstream them into an xp disc but it ain't for beginers

nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation

Just too add. If your getting the no disc found it could be that the hard drive is dying as said earlier.

What prompted you too try and run recovery in the fdirst place

Sorted, just had to disable the SATA control in the bios.

Thanks to everyone who helped

Sorry, didn't see this earlier, as I could have told you that about the SATA controller a couple of days ago - use a lot of 6910Ps at work :o

Glad you're sorted
