ICE install was going well until...

Featured Replies

... I came to replug the HU back in... Damn thing won't wake up again and I've tried every combo of ISO connector pattern there is. :(

Anyway, the earlier work went well - pulled through my old wire, attached to the 4awg to save me ripping any trim out, plugged the new wire into the dizzy block, plugged it into the fuseholder - ran speaker wire under the trim down each side, into the HU area... carefully chopped the pioneer's speaker wires (thanks to Faboka's printouts from that thread ages ago) and crimped connectors to each one, and crimping on the Pioneer's wires which matched ( had a flawless system to know + from - :)) So, with everything connected up I went to plug the HU back in and it won't go live. After much cursing I decided to give up and think about it while tapping away here on my mate's laptop in his unit. And I'm still no closer - even checked fuse 45, 20A to see if I blew it.. nope.

*sigh... back to see what else has been posted on here about me in the last 48 hours.

Checked the fuse on the HU?

Have you tested your power wires with a multimeter to see if you have a good 12v and earth?

Well, as it turns out with me I was looking at the wrong fuse and number 45 had indeed bitten the dust, so I shoved a 25A one in there (only one I could find lying around)

Now I have the problem of it not working in the usual VAG setup,i.e it seems to NOT be making one of the red/yellow wires cut the power to the HU when the key is pulled out the igniion. A volt-meter has verified that both the yellow and red wires are either both live or negative in both situations (key in ignition, or turned off)

One obvious way around this is to have it in permanent live postion, which it now is. It just seems to not accept the way it was wired before with red & yellow wires swapped over.

Well - I'm fooking off home now, so laters!

little bit annoyed with my ICE now :grumpy:

Bloody HU now won't do its turn off with the ignition thing - and all testing determined there was NO WIRE, and I mean NO WIRE that went from positive to negative when the ignition was killed - all were either positive or negative at all times. Bloody annoying! And to top it all, the amplifier is putting out such a strong bass to the front comps (or somethings not setup right) all I get is door panel vibrations and bad quality bass, probably caused by the vibrating trim. And bloody local Wickes had none of that matting stuff... All rather depressing for someone who's likes tinkling with his ICE... And I dropped a load of vital fuse bits into the engine bay, meaning I had to remove the engine cover, and cut my hand a few times.

Car is starting to annoy me greatly! Oh, and I think a rear bearing may be one the way out too...

Sounds like your having fun......................not!

What have you set your hpf filter too on the amp?

The amplifier is still set up in subwoofer mode, so perhaps something needs changing on it...

Doesn't help with the HU issue though - I may try and swap yellows/reds again and see if it suddenly comes live again how it should.

Another issue I found out - Pioneer HU cages must be different to Kenwood because the Pioneer just goes straight through the Kenwood cage and doesn't lock... Now I need a Pioneer cage

You reading this Andy @ the Car Audio place??? I need a Pioneer HU cage. :D

Why don't you go along to Halfords to see if they can sort you out?

Jason go back to the beginning. Put your standard radio back in (if you still have it) using the ISO plugs and see what happens.

Jason, is the furby like the octy in that you need to remove the key for before the switched ignition feed is killed, just turning between the 2 key positions keeps both 12v feeds live.

Yeah Furby is the same.

What happens when you turn the connector upside down? ;)

I deffo have the ignition thing in on and off when testing power - almost seems a relay has shot it, but I doubt it...
