Confirming ESP/ARS/ABS function?

Featured Replies

Hello

Just a little concern following Hauptmann kindly did the autoscan for me quite a few weeks for me, (following the vagscope to get the SKC however it couldnt communicate or in fact access denied). However later, Shark got it via the VAG communicator (for later cars) confirming it was what I had.

One thing Hauptmann noticed earlier was showing in the VCDS at the time, I recall it was something we discussed about no version information or something for the ABS controller, and I noticed the sticky about the ABS from vRStu, I dont know if Im being paranoid....

Anyway, so if I start my car as normal lights come on, lights go off on dash, press the ASR button and it lights up, and will go off if pressed again as normal.

Just Im NOT sure the ASR is kicking in normally, and havent noticed ABS ?? been driving a bit too sensible lately

So I was just a little worried that maybe my ABS might not be working properly ?? I am not sure how to test other than drive like a loon, as I have recently struggled to try and get it to light ! Then Im kinda worried that I might go a bit over the top, and if it aint got the ASR could lead to disaster.....

You would think, with the wet etc, but I think I need more time (pity its not ice and snow, that would be easier) guess Im just gonna have to get the power down and will it to slip so I can see that light flicker again.

Any tips to get the ASR light up :D

it does light up but had to cross carriageway on a steep camber to see it under hard acceleration. difficult to see any other time

I think you're worrying a bit too much. We could communicate with the unit and it identified itself and had no fault codes. The odd thing is that the the 'part number' and coding strings were all 0's. I don't recall seeing that before (but it just might be that I've not noticed it on other cars).

To test ASR and ABS simply find yourself a quiet country lane with no kerb and grassy verge. Put your n/s wheels on the verge and try a little brisk acceleration and then sharp braking. ASR and ABS should kick in, respectively.
