Golf Mk5 Pirelli Edition DSG: sticking in 3rd

Featured Replies

Anyone heard of this one? Guy at work has this happening and it's been into the dealer numerous times and is at the stage of being told that "it's designed to do this if the gearbox can't work out what gear to be in"?!? Basically the car has to drop to a walking pace before the DSG sort itself out and recovers. Think it might even have stalled on a few occasions

The gearbox is running the latest software/firmware revision too. So thinking if it's this latest software at fault?!

Cheers,

Steve

Sounds like bo!!ocks to me Steve.

If it is getting to the stalling stage then that sounds like the Mechatronics.

Mechatronics without a shadow of doubt.

You had mechatronics issues yet Ian?

Mechatronics? Not familiar with the term I'm afraid.

Are we in the realms of replacement boxes here then, or can other adjustments/tweaks be made? These symptoms certainly aren't anything I've heard of before with DSG 'boxes.

Not since the new one. ;)

Steve, the Mechatronics is the brain that converts electrical to hydraulic. First port of call from guided fault finding will be basic settings, which made mine worse, after that if still knackered the Mechatronics.

My dealer was spot on. I had a 6 week wait for the part and then it was in and done in a day with a free DSG oil change as part of the procedure.

If they acknowledge the problem then they should fix it. If not go elsewhere.

Sticking in 3rd sounds like limp-home to me, and TBH it's pretty certain to be the mechatronics module.

Either the box is faulty or the software has gone mad.

I'm sure there was an issue like this in the US, where the software control units had to be replaced.

Cheers guys. Anyone got some links to perhaps similar issues out there, that I could pass on?

Thanks,

Steve

Think it was actually a duff temperature sensor that gave a spurious overheat signal and slung the car into neutral. Either way, I'm glad not everything in life is as reliable as a Volkswagen... :thumbdwn:
