Another amplifier wiring question....

Featured Replies

I have an aerial amplifier fitted, drawing power of my Kenwood head unit from a blue wire that is labelled for powering an elecric aerial. Can I use the same wire to power the 'remote on' for an amplifier in my boot ? - if so, how do I actually connect the 2 different amp wires to the 1 coming off the head unit. Do I just twist them together and put some tape round it , or is there some connector I can buy??

Why not just connect the remote on to the Ignition wire, should do the job, you can get some handy little connectors from maplins that will make the job easy for you, if not just connect with these, cleaner and tidier than cable splicing with tape...

Cable connectors No need for high amp cable or connectors as its just a remote switch anyway

No don't connect the remote amp wire to the ignition, as it will turn your amp (s) on as soon as the ignition is on.

Then when you start the car, you risk popping the amps due to voltage surges, peaks and drop outs due to the starter motor drawing all the current.

Best way is to connect the two wires to the blue and white (usually) coming from the head unit.

Do it however you please, but make sure it is safe and secure.

Depending on the deck, it may also have seperate aerial and remote wires. If not the existing one is ok to use for both.
